This is correct. We had programmers trying to work on 95 machines and they were rebooting 5 or 6 times a day. Moved them over to NT and they were going weeks between reboots. Windows 2000 improved stability even more and brought with it Plug and Play.

Windows 95 and floppy disks
Unironically easier to maintain and secure than a Windows 11 setup.

I still have a Win95 computer I don't use.

They need to upgrade to Windisk

That unit is incredibly clean.

Those tapes go directly to iron mountain. There is zero concept of on-prem storage to the govt

Wait until they bring it up to the 21st century, spending multiple millions to do so and the thing is locked up in updates that require reimaging the machines to get them to work again.
The best tech out there is the tech designed in the 80s/90s that was supposed to work without updates and after a nuke was dropped.
The cloud based stuff sucks.

Floppy disks are incredibly reliable storage mediums, though.
Not really. The sectors start to degrade over time.

Hell, this may be a mistake. The FAA may be the last government agency to not be hacked.

Retail is probably still using 5.25 floppies.

Everyone talking about Win95 and ignoring this one. C64 was no longer in production when Win95 was released.

We can spare billions for foreign countries and their wars but can’t upgrade our own shite.

Doesn’t surprise me in the least.
A system created in the mid-1980’s is still the primary system being used in Louisiana’s prison system.

The hardware speed and power has massively increased since Win95. Old machines' hardware becomes very unreliable because chips don't last forever.

Most of the fed gov runs on COBOL
My agency does, and when they've tried to update to new software, it has been a failure. COBOL ain't fancy, but like a 2010 Camry, it just runs with no issues.

It also becomes increasingly pricey to find staff skilled in COBOL.
Anyone who has experience with legacy cobol systems is still making bank.
Its like being the last mechanic in the 90’s who knew how to work on straightline 6’s from the 70’s
