Ever since the Marxists discovered that the could attract people to their belief system by labeling everything racist they’ve been on a campaign to diminish the historical accomplishments of any white person - usually by falsely reassigning those accomplishments to a black or Muslim. The Barbery Pirates and their ancestors many, many generations back raped, pillaged and plundered most of Europe. Hell, they got as far as Iceland, took prisoners who became their slaves. All those prisoners were bred and affected the look of the subsequent populations.

Meh. The classic North African nations of Morocco and Algeria are heavily Berber with slightly different admixtures of European, Subsaharan and Near/Mid East. Most of the European is going to date to the Greek and Roman periods. Most of the Near/Mideast is going to be from the Islamic expansion (mainly Arab) of the 7th to 10th centuries. The Subsaharan is likely a trickle back to pre-history. There is little to no evidence these captives, at least alone, altered the outward appearance of these people. Just taking Morocco and Algeria (because they are least affected by Arab admixture, for example), they are not much more European (10 to 11 percent) than they are Subsaharan. If anything, that probably washes out major complexion changes. Libya and Tunisia are heavily Arabic by ethnicity.
It is obvious that most Mediterranean folks, on both sides, were naturally a dusky or "swarthy" if you like appearing people who did not appear to be of Subsaharan/West African appearance. All the way back to prehistory this is likely to have been the case.
