I like the whole notion that somehow I'm not living in Nola and being forced to live in BR. I could pack up today and move to Nola tomorrow. I choose not to. I work there and it's enough to enforce my opinion that I don't want to deal with the average Nola citizen more than I have to

Restaurants are always the argument. Cool, i can go to all those and I doubt you're in there every night as much as they tout them. Festivals? Yea I go to those also. Sporting events? Hopefully our car survives it. The local politics somehow makes BR politics seem functional. They're pretty much all living on top of each other. People bragging about living in Nola(metarie). Lol.

Lester's posting is an act but the real Nola apologists are pathetic

The "don't talk about my city" attitude of the avg NOLA resident is even worse than the "you think you're better than me??" attitude of the avg Laffy resident.

I shite in Nola all the time. I wouldn’t live here if I had kids or wasn’t firmly upper middle class. You just choose to skip over that because it doesn’t trigger you

Everyone can afford to live in Metairie, so why aren’t they moving there?

It’s laughable when people act like the entire state of Louisiana top to bottom is a shite hole like Nola.

We’re 50th in a lot of things and just lost one of the top doctors in the state this past week… if Louisiana isn’t a shithole then nowhere is a shithole

I guess.
I would imagine though most people can’t afford east of Causeway I’m Metairie. By me lots are over well over $200k. Tear downs are $300k. New houses average 600-700k.
I’m not even in old Metairie

Bye - one less liberal MFR that we have to deal with. His voting is why NOLA is in the situation that it’s in.

You can live any where in the world & you choose to live in Baton Rouge Louisiana. Anyone but you can talk shite about New Orleans with a pass. Your standard cannot get lower

You don’t think another doctor will be hired with a similar salary to take his place?

Also, I think in order to have a high standard of living in any large city, you have to have money. You can say the same thing about Dallas about needing money.

It's not about having a high standard of living, it's about having a reasonable standard of living. Spending $450k on a shotgun home a block away from some of the most dangerous places in the country does not constitute a reasonable standard of living IMO. Couple that with a crummy job market, horrible infrastructure and a history of corrupt politics and it doesn't resonate as a reasonable standard of living for most.

The valid criticisms about crime, the streets, and the POS mayors are not, in my opinion, things that are specific to Nola. I'm not saying they are excusable, but moving to another big city doesn't solve them (does Atlanta have a good mayor?).

No, its not exclusive to Nola, but Nola is the worst in many of those areas.

You can move to the northshore and feel like you've improved your lot -- while you sit in Houston style traffic on your way to a chain restaurant.

I did just that (before I moved out of state) and the standard of living is far better. That tired trope of "chain restaurants" just isn't true.

LSUgrrl,
I wish I had multiple alters to give you more up votes. You are so right, it's not the NOLA we knew.

Heck, in Houston I knew someone whose Mother and Sister still lived on Esplanade and who were still refusing to lock their doors at night, much less during the day. That was 40 years ago.

The guy we bought our house in the Quarter from had a saying "If your life has any weaknesses, move to New Orleans and those weaknesses will grow and will overwhelm you." (It was his vacation home and he decided Florida was better for him.)

Yea. I don't mind driving. The average person in New orleans sucks and I generally hate being around them.

Born and raised there. It doesn't have the luster that it has for people that didn't do that. It's always been home but I can acknowledge it sucks and I don't want it

I hear you but that’s a wild commute. Why not just live in Jefferson parish or St Tammany?
