I-49 won’t be going anywhere near the Space X site.

No! No! ....... and NO!

The hellhole known as the Evangeline Thruway which bisects the eastern section of the city of Lafayette has been a major sticking point for the past 30 to 40 years.

Maybe I-410 finally gets built and the westbank rebirth happens

Hell yeah. And then maybe they can finally build the extension over the marsh at the end of Lafitte Larose Highway that was actually supposed to connect Lafitte to Larose

Imagine Elon becoming an LSU fan and starts throwing NIL money around for our players to be in ads for Space X, Tesla, Starlink, and X

The only hold up is Lafayette. I thought that the North side finally agreed to some kind of elevated expressway, but then everything went completely dead. In the meanwhile, every small intersection and railroad crossing along US 90 is getting upgraded and ready for possible expansion. But in Lafayette, I see businesses building and expanding on what was purported to be the site of the elevated portion, so I have no idea what is going on.

They’re actually clearing out a lot of the buildings along Evangeline right now to make way.

and the effect on traffic in that area during construction would be a living Hell, even by Lafayette standards.

They need several trains with multiple runs per day back north

I think a 4 or 6 lane highway/hurricane evacuation route on the west side of Lafayette from Pecan Island north to 1-10 and then northeast to I-49 around Sunset or Carencro area.

This will take the everyday traffic load off of 167 and possible a lot of lives if a Katrina or Rita hits that coast.

They have to put in an airport at some point, though Acadiana can support it in the short term during the first stages of the building with the capacity there for the O&G and solar plant.

There is also going to be a lot of pressure on local companies and communities. The new schools and hospitals/urgent care will pay great rates, which will force surrounding areas to up their game. There is a lot of crossover and experience applicable from the O&G and supporting workforce that SpaceX will be able to hire a lot locally. There pay will force local employers to up the payscale. This will cause some localized inflation that may take some time for the area as a whole to come up to.

As I've said overall this is far and away a net positive for the area and state. There will just be some growing pains and a lot of moaning while everything is being built and stabilizing.

This is going to be substantially larger than Brownsville area SpaceX facilities
