People who visit Atlanta are always shock it's not as Black as they thought. Atlanta is very diverse now and a lot of Black people in the southern suburbs now. Atlanta is becoming or has become a city for higher income folks. And contrary to popular belief, Asians and Hispanics are the fastest growing in Atlanta. It's not Black

I was there for a meeting last year downtown and felt like I was in a third world country

Then speech was following questioning on concerns of the AA community that moved to Houston/Atlanta coming back. Nagin said what he said to assure those that New Orleans would remain a majority 'chocolate'. He even went as far as to say the storm was judgement from God over the US being in Iraq, and that it was a chance for the AA community to build back better and stronger as New Orleans would be the picturesque 'chocolate city' that MLK dreamed of.

It had nothing to do with the levees, but concern that the majority of the black community had abandoned New Orleans with no intent to return several months after he and other officials had told them it was safe to do so.

The blacks are just going to be pushed out of nola proper to the West Bank, Slidell, Kenner etc.

Look at inner loop Houston. Decades of gentrification pushed undesirables out between Beltway8/610 and beyond. Now the inner loop portion of Houston is for the most part pretty upscale and nice. Houston has way more resources and way more concentrated wealth opposed to New Orleans.

I don’t see why Nola proper couldn’t sort of pull this off but all of the CBD relies on people to work these events so if they don’t live there you can’t pull these events off.

I believe you. His plans backfired. The Black population in New Orleans is projected to keep declining. Most Black people I know in New Orleans want to leave or planning to leave this year. Ray Nagin specialized in failure while in office and after

2024 census data for Atlanta

Black- 46.3%
White- 38.6 %

It also dropped two spots behind DC and Miami for metro populations after last year.

It’s still a shite hole. Sorry

feel like New Orleans need to focus on a rebrand and fall a bit away from tourism to keep its middle class intact (mostly White folks) and attract better demographics to ensure the city won't go the way of a Detroit.

Can’t speak for other cities but I know for a fact Houston is a top landing spot. There’s so many Louisiana plates around Houston. Specifically driven by black women.

Houston has always had a very strong connection with Nola and S Louisiana in general. White and black. So many ties among people.

Tourism is fine but only when coupled with other stuff. Technology, Oil and Gas, entertainment, etc. Tourism being the main draw to the city is giving third world country like Jamaica or something.

If this insurance situation doesn't get under control, no one from either race will be living here much longer.

Until the consent decree goes away, this won't matter. I do think Kirkpatrick is pushing the limits of the consent decree as far as she can get away with.

WIll never happen but I think the current DA is starting to figure out he has to prosecute some people. He's not nearly as soft as he was a couple of years ago.

They actually do, one of the few silver linings. However, they don’t give 2 shits who they rob
But they tend to kill who they rob, way more than in other places. It's one of the most fricked up things about NO.

Also everything I hate is for the same reason (crime, bad schools, bad music, bad politicans, etc). And some of what is considered Black culture was Native American culture. Second line if I'm not mistake was derived from Native Americans. Native Americans mixed with Blacks and Blacks got all the credit
