My wife is at least reasonable and buys them at the huge consignment sales but then also bought our daughter 6 Christmas dresses.
I assume they’ll go back to the same consignment sales once we know we’re not having another girl.

Just stop and think if you could upload logic to a woman and let her see that the ROI on that is basically nothing. If you halted dance for a mere 3 years, you could potentially invest $24k-$36k on something worthwhile.
But alas, you let your wife decide to spend it on costumes that they'll never wear again just so your daughter can twirl on stage for a few minutes.
Not to mention the countless hours on "dance practice", the mileage spent on to and fro, the long weekends sitting in some god-awful center watching this crap.
All, so by the time she hits 16, she's no longer interested in dance. Perhaps, if so inclined, she makes it on the dance squad in highschool.
Wow. What a waste.

I’m so happy my first and probably only child was a boy. My wife always says I should be happy we didn’t have a girl just for the same stupid reason you speak of.

This is a beta move. My daughter did dance around that age, and in no way was that much money spent. Maybe you should take the pants back from your wife and not allow her to make stupid decisions.

It must be because I didn't grow up in the south, but I hate the smocked look.
Especially when woman make their sons wear smocked clothes. Poor kids looks ridiculous.

My wife tried to smock stuff with my son and I put a stop to that fast. You want him to wear a polo shirt then that is fine but he is a boy and we dress him like a boy. She wanted to monogram stuff for him and I said no boys do not need anything monogramed. She does make shirts for him at the holidays but I stop trying to fight that

I grew up having to attend dance recitals and competitions. At first they were absolutely brutal... When I reached the age where girls became a major interest, they were a highlight. Looking back, it is kind of absurd what these parents will allow their young teen girls to wear on stage; and some of the ways these dances are choreographed. The only downside for young me was constantly having to hide erections and the insane blue balls afterwords. Got quite a few girlfriends out of the deal though.

chalmetteowl... I played on a baseball team with a few Holy Cross guys during high school. A few of their girlfriends showed up to one of the first tournaments and we were all hanging out in the bleachers before a game. I was speaking to one of the single friends and she stated proudly that she was a "Charma". The group absolutely lost their minds when I said I had no idea what a "Charma" was.

I love monogrammed clothes, but have only bought two pieces for my son. One was his coming home outfit (which didn't fit until he was 2 months) and the other is a shirt for his first birthday. I don't buy others because honestly I don't feel like spending $20 on a shirt he will fit into for a month. He is 10.5 months and already on his 6th set of clothing.
