I would personally love a hockey team. I know it will never happen, but it would be so much fun to get drunk and watch hockey.

Baseball probably needs a metro of 2.5 million to make it work. NOLA just doesn’t seem like a hockey town

Remember when Louisiana had the Brass, the moccasins, etc? It was fun but not sustainable

I'd love to have an NHL team over an N.B.A. team.

A baseball team would 100% require a Dome if its anywhere near I-10

Too small of a market. Nola is the smallest NFL market by a good margin

quote:No. NOLA/BR's market size and demographics wouldn't support a major pro team in any of those sports.

The few little bits of Pelicans games I've seen on tv look like the building is about 70% empty. Why would anyone want to bring another team here? I'm surprised the Pelicans haven't moved yet.

Green Bay, baw.
Zephyrs failed because local majority ownership bailed a number of years ago. Walt Leger stayed on in a minority role, but he never seemed a dynamic enough person, and was rarely a dynamic presence at the ball park the way Rob Couhig was. If the new ownership group rumored to be coming together to get a AA Southern League team stays local, they may have success.
Brass failed by moving into the Arena, although they were the only tenant at first; Hornets moved in and SMG did not want to add a third shift to operations to do the needed conversions between hockey and basketball openings. They averaged sellouts in the Auditorium of 5,010. They got nearly that every night in the Arena, too, but it looked a bit more anemic.
Certainly as the other ECHL teams slowly went out of business, the Brass would likely have followed suit simply due to travel costs. Sad.
MLS, New Orleans does not have enough of a soccer history for MLS. We have some strong Hispanic leagues and a couple clubs in that that play well and one club has even made a U.S. Open Cup run. But the history and attendance history is weak. Sad, too, as this denied New Orleans a chance at hosting World Cup games in 1994 and 2026.
The metropolitan area at about 1,500,000 is simply too small to sustain all these. Again, sad.
