Doubtful
In the 90s LSU baseball was sufficient for having a major league team. Louisiana isnt baseball country, I dont think the market is really there.
Seems the cheapest would be having an NHL team as far as overall expenses would go. Maybe not..but louisiana is football country. People want to give a frick about the pelicans, but it's hard to a lot of the time

If baseball were going to happen, it would have been a long time ago. In the early 1920s, when Bogalusa was a relatively new city (founded in 1905), it hosted MLB exhibition games, including the Yankees. Yes, Babe Ruth played in Bogalusa. New Orleans developed the Pelicans minor league team. If that much attention back then, when baseball truly was the national pastime, did not garner enough to bring an MLB team to New Orleans, it isn't going to happen now without major cultural shifts and attitudinal shifts regarding the sport.

Mls is fasting growing sport
Look at O'lando, Austin , Nashville
Sacramento as well. it is truly remarkable what US Soccer has done to grow the game domestically. i cant wait to see the influx of young american talent in the future.
the mls knew it needed to expand and i think they did a great job with the markets they are bringing in.

Nowhere in Louisiana is akin to Orlando.

Will never have any of those.
Closest to pro hockey will be minor league, or developmental league like the Shreveport Mudbugs in the NAHL.
Shreveport is also being discussed for a USL soccer club. The Cincinnati club was recently promoted to the MLS.

MLB would have to somehow attract from Mobile to NOLA to have the eyeballs. I would laugh at a MLB team in Bolixi. NHL could work in a few Southern cities if invested correctly. MLS needs a latino/younger population. Not sure how NOLA is with those ATM.
ETA:
As someone who loves MLB, SEC baseball is a better deal. It usually costs me $100 a pop min to attend a game (when not using corporate tickets). SEC baseball I can take the whole family.

Remember when Louisiana had the Brass, the moccasins, etc? It was fun but not sustainable
This was pre-internet and smartphones...people needed more to do back then.

New Orleans would be a better fit for a USL club than MLS.

If NOLA got an NHL team, I would buy season tickets the day they went on sale.

MLS I could see working in NOLA, or maybe even the northshore.
MLB would probably struggle, even if they somehow had a nice stadium right in downtown NOLA. Maybe, maybe, they could survive, but I don't see how it would thrive unless they got really good really fast and sustained it.
NHL... nah.

Brass failed by moving into the Arena, although they were the only tenant at first; Hornets moved in and SMG did not want to add a third shift to operations to do the needed conversions between hockey and basketball openings. They averaged sellouts in the Auditorium of 5,010. They got nearly that every night in the Arena, too, but it looked a bit more anemic.
Best part about the Brass playing in the Auditorium was that every seat was basically right up on the ice because of the small size (the rink was actually under regulation size as well) so fans got into it more. When they moved into the arena that same crowd got so spread out that it seemed empty. Eventually they closed off the upper deck but it was still visible so looked so empty. I think if SMG would have committed to the conversions it would have been more successful because people coming to hockey games would see stuff about basketball and maybe want to go and people coming to basketball games would see hockey stuff in the arena and be interested in seeing that.

Just looked it up and you are correct.
Buffalo is a smaller media market than NOLA as well... barely. I see Jacksonville #42, NOLA #50, Buffalo #52, and Green Bay #67.
