College football season will be fun with the new SCOTUS ruling in favor of New Jersey and making sports betting legal.

Not likely. Mississippi will likely be the only state in the area that will get betting up and going in time for football.

Louisiana has already shown their arse to the rest of the country tonight by immediately speaking out against it.
(as if the rest of the country needed any further proof to why Louisiana is 10 years behind on everything)

The U.S. Supreme Court opened the door Monday for nearly three dozen states to legalize betting on football, basketball, baseball and other sporting contests.

Louisiana will not be one them.

US Supreme Court decision on sports betting

“Not only are we not going to get anything out of it, we’re going to lose money,” Sen. Danny Martiny, R-Metairie, said about the impact of Monday’s high court decision and the Legislature’s failure to back bills that would have authorized legalized sports betting.

He predicts more New Orleans customers will now travel about an hour east to Biloxi casinos to place some bets, watch the games, and likely have dinner and some drinks while there.

Mississippi will be ready to go in about 45 days, or 60 days at the most.

Why does anyone with a brain bet on something they know is rigged?

Nba

Bama refs

Etc.

If they are rigged before betting, holy crap can you imagine legal betting being in place? Bama holding? As mythical as a nat championship with oregeron at the helm.

Because it makes the games more interesting. Who the frick cares if the Lions are playing the jets or the Browns are playing the Cardinals? Unless you have a bet on the game you probably don't give a shite. Pro sports needs gambling or those corporations will crumble.

I believe they shot that bill down earlier in session. Draft kings and Fanduel will most likely be legal to play by the 2019 football season.

Yea...you'll loose money because you decided not to jump on it early enough....

That sentence shows why Louisiana politicians are out of their minds.

No. I'm pretty sure the legislature already voted against do so this year. They weren't proactive in anticipating the ruling and are just now in the process of soliciting bribes for the eventual sports books. Once to palms of the right legislators are greased, Louisiana will join everyone else

No shite which is why you legalize it here. I would easily go to a casino with a book and watch some games, buy some food, maybe even gamble a little if they had the setups for it.

The idiot politicians in Louisiana are so scared to "expand gambling" and be labeled as such by Gene Mills and the Family Forum that they are more willing to put granny out of the nursing home and into the street than to allow you to make a bet on a game while you are IN A LEGAL CASINO ALREADY OPERATING in LOUISIANA!!

It's a money maker for any casino, so if the state allows it they'll offer it ASAP.

As I've said before, Louisiana will wait until Mississippi is making a killing off of sports betting, then will jump in late, then will find a way to waste the money.

Yep. I can't wait to head over there and spend a whole Saturday or Sunday watching football and placing bets.

I hate La and our back woods small minded politicians.

It's dead right now but they can bring it up again in the Special session if the governor requests it. I guess that'll depend on he and his cronies getting the proper pay-offs.

The reason why the bill didn't advance is because the state is so broke, it doesn't have the money to get the regulatory program off of the ground (estimated at $25 million).

The senate finance committee is killing any bill that adds money to the deficit.

LA legislature also loves to legislate morality so even if this does some day make it out of committee, the holy rollers will probably rip it to shreds.

Yep. Harrah's is thinking about a major expansion on the Nola casino. I bet they would love to add a bad arse sports bar with the betting within this expansion.

Sounds like they need to fly Edwards out to Vegas and have a talk with him.

To be fair, Martiny has been one of the only legislators trying to get legislation passed to allow sports betting.

State Sen. Jack Donahue, R-Mandeville, made the motion to kill the bill, saying his constituents do not want more gambling.

Here is how the vote fell with the Senate Finance Committee on Martiny's legislation:

Senate Finance Committee vote on SB266

For (3):
Sen. Greg Tarver, D-Shreveport
Sen. Conrad Appel, R-Metairie
Sen. Ronnie Johns, R-Lake Charles.

Against (6):
Sen. Jack Donahue, R-Mandeville
Sen. Bret Allain, R-Franklin
Sen. Regina Barrow, D-Baton Rouge
Sen. Wesley Bishop, D-New Orleans
Sen. Jim Fannin, R-Jonesboro
Sen. Sharon Hewitt, R-Slidell.
