Houston gonna take the crown from New Orleans once again.

People that say this I believe are mentally retarded.
1. It's in bad taste.
2. The gulf coast got slammed by Katrina. Parts of Mississippi had it worse than New Orleans.
3. Listen man, I know this is the OT and it's usually all fun and games, hell I've made tasteless jokes, but this is bigger that us. There are real people with real problems right now. And let me tell you this, you make one more joke like that and i will jam my cock so far down your throat that your shite will be my piss. Your mother will be able to taste my ball sweat when I'm done with you.

Perhaps. The only difference is the money sent to TX will be spent wisely. Anything sent to LA will be stolen by crooked politicians and their contractor buddies.

I think you mean Alabama.

I can't imagine a sadder thread.

That would be really cool if we could keep a crisis like this from becoming a dick measuring contest.

Yeah it's a crown nobody here (or anywhere) wants
Posted on 8/28/17 at 3:52 pm to Jtigers99
it will be the costliest but with less than 10 percent of the deaths of Katrina.

This.
You measure a natural disaster by total cost, not just one city. Idiots
Everything from New Orleans over to damn near Mobil sustained a shitload of damage.
I think Harvey will end up being costlier, but you have to know there was a lot that was scraped off down to the foundations for a long stretch of the Miss coast.
Now let the storm dick measuring contest begin.

With the amount of rain Baton Rouge area got last August and the amount of rain dumped on Houston with this storm, I sure hope this doesn't become the norm because Houston, New Orleans and South LA for that matter might just be one Cat 5 away from being the end of these cities and areas. The landscape might permanently be altered.
After what I've seen the last two years, I might push my kids to move to Atlanta or Dallas or somewhere else far away from the coast.

When they said 40-50 inches of rain and BR "only" got 30 last year my first thought was how much of Houston will not be touched by this? I'm not sure if it will be as costly as Sandy because property values in the Northeast are absurd, but this is going to be unbelievably destructive and disruptive.

How long did the new orleans airport closed after Katrina?

From wiki
quote:
Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport was closed before the storm but reported no flooding in airplane movement areas or inside of the building itself. By August 30, it was reopened to humanitarian and rescue operations. Commercial cargo flights resumed on September 10, and commercial passenger service resumed on September 13
LINK
So MSY was down for about 2 weeks. That's a good question because that's part of what I meant when I said disruptive. Houston is big for oil and gas and is a major airport and shipping hub.
