Will California's new water rules push people out of the Golden State?

“Please sir, I want some more,” is no longer a sentiment just for Oliver Twist in the orphanage. A new law in California limits how much water can be used by each household. Now their showers, how many flushes, and how often they can do their laundry will be under the watchful eye of the state government.
This from politicians who have pushed policies creating homeless and drug abuse crises throughout the state. They have now decided to clamp down on the use of the most basic needs of civilized living.
As the blog Zero Hedge put it, “it’s now against the law to do laundry and shower on the same day in the Sunshine State,” and they’re not exaggerating. Under the guise of addressing “climate change,” the new bill rations water to a degree that makes it impossible to maintain a healthy home environment.

What are the penalties for exceeding?

California isn't the Sunshine State.

Florida is the sunshine state

Why do people link fox news as a real source?
It's amazing that something claimed on a random blog snowballs into national news these days. Journalism is dead.

It establishes 55 gallons per person per day...That is a lot of water overall. Front load washers only use around an average of 20 gallons per load...some use as little as 5.
Newer toilets actually use a little over 1.5 gallons per flush.
The average dishwasher uses 6 gallons per cycle.
Low flow shower heads use around 2.5 gallons per minute...so a 5 minute shower would use around 12.5 gallons.
In theory, taking a 5 minute shower, a load of clothes and 3 toilet flushes and a washing a load of dishes would use around 45 gallons.
Also...remember that this is 55 gallons per person per day. So a 5 person household's limit would actually be 275 gallons per day. While everyone will be expected to shower, and use the toilet...you probably aren't going to do 5 loads of laundry and 5 dishwasher cycles every day...but if you did, you would still be about 50 gallons under the limit...allowing 10 gallons per person to cook, clean and drink. So, while it is a very controlling legislation, it isn't as limiting as it may appear.

This is all correct, the story is far more sensationalized than reality. The other thing is these fees for overages are enforced against the municipality I believe, not the actual homeowner. Therefore the city has to find a way to actually enforce this, which may or may not be possible?
Really have to see how it plays out first

I don't get it either.. Look, I know both CNN and Fox are biased. One is conservative and the other is liberal, but Fox is more obvious.
There have been quite a few stories I have seen, that were on Fox, that was just absolutely wrong. Both networks are a big part of the problem with today's media, because there are people who believe every word those programs publish.. And they are able to steer the thoughts of these people.

So one teenager plus the wife could easily blow through that allowance ... guess topping off the pool isn’t an option either

There are allowances for amenities such as pools, hot tubs etc...

I wish New Orleans would do this. It would limit the S&WB charging me for 100,000 gallons in a month with their $5k bills.

Correct. The 55 gallon limit is a guideline for the water companies to plan around. No fine for individual users. Also says some cities already average under 55 gallons per user.

It's not about the application of how much you get, it's about the principle that the government can limit how much of a natural resource you can consume.

You are such a fricking hack. Literally always left leaning while claiming your moderateness. You do this in every one of these threads. No one is buying it.

It's impossible to not post in a thread that you aren't posting in because you post in all of them.
