I sort of focus on the 1 star reviews. Still have to sift though those, though.
Plenty of "wrong part", "wasn't OEM part" (even when you order , it clearly tells you so)
I generally like the long winded reviews, although I imagine some of those could be created by marketing people at the company selling the product.

Same. If the 1 star reviews complain about product quality and other reviews being fake, then I avoid it.

I was looking for tempered glass for an s7 edge and it needed to be curved and fit well...the freaking fake reviews made it a complete pain in the arse to find a stupid screen protector.

You are depending on the retail outlet to tell you how good a product they are selling you is.

Think about what you are finding surprising.

Chevy says they have good trucks...must be true.

Amazon isn't the bees knees like everyone wants to claim it to be.

and prime isn't really a good deal, w/o prime i was getting shite in 2-3 days as it was.

And their movies, shows, etc aren't worth a lick. And they want you to pay for music now for echo. LOL

Reviews can be good for pros and cons if you read several.

A lot of negative reviews are morons who didn't read the description or crooks who tried to extort the seller and failed.

Best Buy or Target don’t have reviews either.

I get reviews on other sites. Then I shop online. Usually Amazon is close to the best price and returns are easy.

I don’t care about toothpaste reviews.

Not for me. I love buying on prime.. I can determine for myself and I can still avoid the less than 4 star products. I have a month to return it with incredible ease. Never even have to take it, they just pick it up. Just state product isn't acting as expected and I don't even pay return shipping.

Huge prime fan because of the ease.

Amazon has been slowly squeezing companies and customers for a while now. They started allowing companies to pay for a top spot, raising Prime rates, charging customers separate subscription fees for services that used to be free.

Its a smart strategy, the bigger they become the worse deal customers will get.

I use fakespot.com to grade reviews on products that I’m skeptical about

So far, it has helped me avoid some shitty items

I never look at the "sponsored" products. Just what I search for.

I tend to ignore the 5s and 1s. But most of the time the returns are so easy that I just get it and send it back if it's crappy.

I was thinking about this the other day. Wife ordered something last week that didn't work right, but "it had the highest reviews".

To me the solution is pretty simple. Reward users for providing reviews, regardless of whether it's a 1 star or 5 star, but validate they've actually ordered the product. It shouldn't be difficult to do that.

What do you mean yelp does this? You mean the companies on yelp? I’ve certainly seen companies trashing individual consumers after the consumer won’t change their review to 5 stars if that’s what you mean.
