Damn. Just like the Mardi Gras. Why would people go see that??
Doesn't NYC enforce strict open container/ public drinking laws (for both Macy's parade and NYE)? Think of a dry Mardi Gras.

I'm guessing most of the onlookers are just family members of all the dancers and band members. Fug dat shhiiiiit.

What is Mardi Gras like for you?
Posted on 11/24/16 at 7:22 am to goldennugget
Was there last year. It's definitely worth going to, and better than most of the Mardi Gras parades I've been to see.

Only thing I can think of while watching the huge crowds is , where the hell do all these people pee?
Posted on 11/24/16 at 8:41 am to goldennugget
They made me go. Dumbest thing in history. And I didn't catch anything not even a doubloon.

It's not as crowded as it looks. It's fairly long parade. I wouldn't compare it to NYE, though I've never been anywhere near midtown on NYE and have zero interest. The open container laws arent harshly enforced but it's not Nola by any means. I've had a warm me up on the parade route once or twice

I've never been on The Strip for NYE but I've done a couple of them on Fremont Street. Don't care if I never do it again but it was fun at the time. (I was MUCH younger then.)

NYC is PEE FREE
I was going to reply to the guy talking about Mardi Gras but this works for you too.

Lets see...
open container laws
no beads or doubloons from the floats
no after-balls/parties
no 'show-your-tits'
....count me out

Guessing you are an LSU fan. Same thing they say about attending LSU games.

The same people that think Disney is a good vacation.

Not even comparable. Mardi Gras is more about boozing, eating, etc than the actual parade.
They can't do that shite in NY.
If you couldn't drink and set up camp for Mardi Gras it would be much less appealing for most.
I don't know what the hell they do out there for the Macy's parade. Just stand around?

My family went to NYC every Thanksgiving to spend the holiday with family on the UES from the time I was born until my early 20's. I remember going to the parade when I was like 4 or 5 and thinking it was lame b/c they didn't throw anything. I pretty much skipped it ever since. I did like to go watch them blow up the balloons in Central Park the night before though and we'd do that every year.

I'd like to be one of the idiots carrying the weights of those big balloons!!!

I visited New York City back in 2010, an absolutely beautiful city that everyone should at least visit once in their lives. With that said, you couldn't pay me to live there. No less then 3 films were being shot while I was there delaying traffic for hours, people everywhere you turn, prices that make you cry and I visited during Christmas season, an absolute madhouse at night and hope you like walking because there's no reason to even have a car up there.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to be miserable for hours on end to be a potential target for a mass murder. frick that.

We can't eat and drink in NYC? Ooookkaayy.

Parades as a rule are boring. You're standing there in the sidewalk watching marching bands walk by and floats roll by. At least at Marsh gras they throw stuff so there's some interaction.

You ever empty out a coffee cup, rinse it out, and fill it with something else? Put that cap back on and your Jack and coke looks like Starbucks. I have been to NYC for NYE. It was crazy as frick and this was back in 1989. Can't imagine what it's like today.
