re: Why the O-T hate over tattoos?

To each his own, I suppose, but I don't understand the WHY behind them.
Dates: Births/deaths/weddings...Can't you just remember them in your brain?
Religious symbols: Again, your brain? Do you really need a cross etched into your chest to know that you're a Christian?
Picture of your child: No explanation necessary.
Words across your back in Chinese, etc.: Do you really trust a tattoo artist to get the translation right? You can't even see it yourself unless you're in a mirror, and then it would be backwards. Dumb.
The trendy part is that your tastes change as you age. A tattoo, to me, is like having a Swatch watch or Z. Cavarricci's glued to my body for all of eternity.

It applies more toward the ladies most of the time.
Because it's not feminine. The majority of men are attracted to women with feminine characteristics and an arm sleeve takes away that attraction.

How tattoos will affect future employment.
How will they effect future employment? Face tattoos, sure. But most others can be covered up in a job interview and during employment. If you hire someone that had tattoos and you didn’t know, and that person worked and performed well, and you still didn’t know, then you see they have tattoos at the company picnic, are you going to fire them for it? If there’s nothing in the handbook about tattoos?
Not a lot of people care about tattoos like they used to unless you’re old and the times have passed you by. All sorts of “professionals” have tattoos and it doesn’t effect job performance at all.
Company presidents, executives, leadership, etc. all have tattoos and they are doing just fine.

You’re still old and flabby without tattoos lol.

How tattoos will appear to your children or grandchildren.
What does this even mean

How you appear when you are attempting to convey seriousness to persons who think tattoos are trashy,
That’s a you problem not the person with the tattoos. Fine, be offended and don’t hire someone or take someone seriously. That person with tattoos is going to be just fine without you.

The vast majority of my friends have tattoos. More than not. Several of my cousins have them. My wife (no pics) has one.
I think they're great if you want them. However I don't want one and never have.
I do not judge people if they get them. They can do whatever they want to with their bodies. Why should I care? The ones my friends have are cool and look cool. I usually compliment them on them because they're great and all of them I know use pretty competent and talented artists. One of my friends even does it for a living. And they do very quality work.
But if you get them on your face or neck, that's a whole other level of trashiness. Neck tats or face tats take you to a level that I'm not interested in hanging out with you or associating with you.

So edgy. The mom joke always kills.

The only tats a woman should have are the ones that can only be seen in private. The sleeves, half sleeves and rest on a woman are dumb as hell. And I will never take someone like that serious. She would treated as a 'fun' girl, because that is all she would be good for.

The fact that there's a thriving tattoo removal industry suggests that tattoos are largely the consequence of impulsivity.
Imagine if every poor decision was inscribed into some highly visible permanent record.
It's reflective of poor impulse control and typically poor self-esteem.

But I never had someone tell me to my face how it was a bad decision or trashy.
Could it be because so many people have them now and they’ve basically become normed?
And telling someone they’re trashy to their face is rude and can lead to a physical altercation which would in turn make that person trashy as well?
quote:
Yes, there are bad tattoos. Majority are actually.
I think you just answered the premise of your own thread.
People have negative opinions about them because the majority of them are a bad idea and are not flattering. Usually the person with them looks better without them. If yours look amazing, that’s great, but you’re already admitting yours are in the minority so I think you do understand the sentiment you’re asking about.

Ummmm, tattoos are a waste of a ton of money. They look terrible, and are trashy because, generally, it's trashy people who get them. Have an artist paint you something to hang on your wall. Why people get inked in places they can't even see is bizarre. "I'm doing it for me" Oh really, can you pull an exorcist move and see that back of the neck tat you have?
Most of all, because it is an impulsive act you have to live with. On your body. Forever. And let's say you carefully thought about spending $1K to have your wife's face immortalized on your chest. Does this seem wise?
I have rarely seen anyone get a "meaningful" tattoo. That butterfly on your ankle, reminds you of peace? Just be peaceful. The sleeve, with hundreds of doodles? Seems like a therapist would cost less...
You do you.
