That officer used the excuse of the window tint. They knew more than that. About 1% of police will stop someone for window tint only.
Tint, license plate light being out, etc. are just the probable cause to allow the stop. The officers attention was grabbed by the stereotypically shitty vehicle he was driving, possibly the dumb flat bill hat he was wearing, the felony forest of air fresheners hanging from the rear view mirror, etc. you know, the usual things that trolls usually have in common.

because an officer saw illegal window tint.
that is probable cause to stop. Once you have PC, the "incidental" fruits of the stop may be admissible in court. The smell of weed is PC and makes it reasonable to search the car. The discovery of possession is PC and makes it reasonable to obtain a search warrant for the house. As long as each step doesn't violate the prohibition of unreasonable search or seizure, the cops have a clean bust.
Drive a factory original Camry with pumpkin spice scented rear view mirror hangings, and drive it in a legal manner, and you too can be free from harassment.

If it's one thing I've learned by watching decades of episodes of "Cops," it's that if I ever find myself cruising around with illegal narcotics in my car, I'm going to make damn sure all of my lights are working, my insurance/registration/license is up to date, I'm not transporting said narcotics through the hood at 2am, the inspection sticker is current, I'm driving the speed limit, and I'm coming to a complete stop at all stop signs.
They don't catch the smart ones.

If you're willing to give up your rights, cool.
What right do you have to drive around with blacked out windshields??
And/Or should you have that 'right'??
Are not some safety requirements for things like automobiles, firearms, hot dogs, eyeglasses, etc not reasonable?? Or do you prefer that it be a "jungle" out there and require everyone to be an expert on everything to function??

SFP and I disagree on a lot of things, but giving agents of the government more reason to infringe on the liberties of citizens is objectively a bad thing.

This would be like arresting someone in California for driving from Arizona to Washington with an AR15 in the trunk, unloaded (legal to do this under federal law).
Not really. He wasn't arrested for the tint, he was arrested for the drugs.

I’ve always wondered though, how can states with varying tint laws ticket vehicles that are just visiting or passing through? I’m surprised there’s never been a big court case about this.
If I get one out of state its going net to my red light tickets, in the trash.

it's wild reading how many posters here support pretextual stops

A good portion of this board would slob on the policeman's knob if he said "you looked like you were driving erratically, and coincidentally now I smell weed"

Why should this be a crime? Blacked out windshields don't affect other drivers, so this has absolutely nothing to do with "public safety". What right does the government have to stop and search me because they can't see into the vehicle that I own and pay taxes on?

Ok cool so is the one time in 5000 bullshite traffic stops that they make a bust.
Why even have probable cause at all. Hell, a hunch is all they need nowadays and they can invent some violation.

if it affects the driver's ability to see clearly, i'd think that is a public safety issue.

quote:so special investigations units are being paid to go harassing people about fricking window tint?…. Or they are just full of shite and picking and choosing who they want to harrass? frick the bill of rights
Special Investigations Division Narcotics Unit agents who were making proactive patrols in the Arabi area conducted a traffic stop for front windshield tint
Just wait until these bozos with a badge decide to kick in your door and search all your shite because the boat parked in your driveway isn’t registered properly. Or your truck is blocking the sidewalk. Hopefully your taxes are squeaky clean and you don’t have a bottle of amoxicillin controlled substance your aunt sent you over when you were running fever.
Bet you say you’re a conservative and believe in the slippery slope theory when it’s convenient huh

They pulled him over for windshield tint.
This may be what their justification for the stop was, but I guarantee they knew this guy was a dealer and had drugs and/or guns on him.
Narcotics officers dont just stop people for tint.
A C.I. tells them who the dealer is and what vehicle he'll be in, they follow him until he commits a traffic violation or has some other pull-over-worthy issue (like tint), and when they stop them the perps are almost always smoking weed so they're able to search the car due to the MJ smell, where they ineveitbaly recover money/drugs/guns/etc...
Glad they got the guy though.

Seat belt laws and window tint laws are all about asset forfeiture. And seizing personal property before a criminal conviction is the exact opposite of limited government and individual liberty.
