NO, wife likes to do runs, so i go along for the 5k's.

Been to runs in nashville,st.louis,KC,Memphis, and Atlanta, and majority were skinny, nerdy, try hards.

Same reason you go into any gym and watch the aerobics junkies doing their "cardio". They spend an hour sweating their arse off and still look chunky. their diet is crap and the biggest fallacy in training is that cardio burns a lot of calories.

maybe it's because you're in LA? Because while i've seen some chubby runners, I've been to the Country Music Marathon numerous times and the vast majority are not even remotely chubby.

I get your point put the average marathon runner isnt chubby. Are there chubby people that run marathons? Absolutely. Is the average marathon runner chubby? No.

The hard part isn't running 26 miles on race day. The hard part is running 500+ miles over several months so that you can run 26 miles on race day.

Whats funny is that there are people talking shite in this thread that have never completed a marathon and are not capable.

Because their bodies adapt to running/walking at a consistent pace. Then there calorie burn slows big time. There’s also nearly no post workout calorie burn that you get with sprints, HIIT or weight training.

Essentially long distance running is a terrible choice for weight control. And if you have a bad diet, you’ll still be fat.

Pretty simple. I drink more beer than I burn calories. I didn't set any world records with my marathon time, but I also didn't walk it. Miles 22-24 had a couple stretches of walking. I also had a beer from a random spectator during that time, hence my earlier statement.

I ran a couple marathons north of 250 and a few a little south of 250. My times were nothing great but respectable. Running that much breaks down muscle mass. Then you think since you run so much you can eat a lot more and overestimate the calories you can eat and not gain. I finally grabbed a clue and realized that lots of weights and a little running is where it’s at in having a good body composition.

And there's something with this? That's why I run and workout everyday, so I can eat and drink whatever I want.

Speak for yourself baw, I'm not sure I could do it unless one of my kid's lives depended on it It would be completely mental for me. I'm in pretty good shape, but I admit distance running is just a mental barrier I have never tried to get over. When I am running, I never go more than 1.5 miles, as I get in better shape I just run it faster so I can stop sooner

Diet is so much more important.

Many people think they can run 20 miles a week and eat and drink to their heart's content. That formula fails miserably as you age.

I've run a few halfs, and it amazes me some of the body types at the snack table when I'm done. Having finished way ahead of me.
