Cause they go "bang" when you pull the trigger.

Cops have killed more black people with Glocks than any other weapon...

I understand wanting a Glock because it doesn't break the bank and is extremely reliable, but personally I find them pretty ugly.
So you pay more which is fine. But there are a whole lot more people that see the gun as a tool and just want one that is reliable and cost effective for what they want to do. Home defense with a very occasional target practice.

Glock is the original and most reliable...all the others are copy cats.

They are good, reliable pistols that have pretty much owned the market for decades. Lacking a true safety, they more or less function as a super high capacity revolver. Those who buy them, probably do so for that reason, or for the price point, and still do. Function over form.
G23 here. Good gun. Nothing to look at, but if I need to protect or defend, all I need to do is squeeze the trigger.

Goes bang every time you pull the trigger, good price, and easy to maintain.
What maintenance? I have 3, and being lazy reached a point where I just stopped cleaning them, they work regardless.

The link I posted. That guy went almost 10k without cleaning still went bang.

A cop or a Glock?
I haven’t seen a Glock in months.
And I own one (a Glock, not a cop).
Every cop that I have seen has a glock. At least in Baton Rouge.
I have the M&P 9 M2.0. Love it.

They are great guns.
They will basically fire in any and all conditions.
You can bury them in the mud and pull them out and start shooting them

Honestly S&Ws SD9VE is a better buy for the price if you like that style of 9mm.
$299 out of the box and it's just as reliable in my opinion. It won't beat out a $600 glock, but in it's price range, it can't be beat.

When glocks were first being offered to police officers, they cost more than the other hand guns, so all of the younger cops would buy them, then realize the terrible mistake they made and exchange them.
Complete bullshite. Glock practically gave away their guns to police departments in order to get them to switch over. Glock would also purchase the old dept. pistols as part of the exchange. That was part of Glock's marketing genius, he knew that the image of professionals using his firearms would generate civilian sales that would more than cover his losses to police departments.

I usually suck at shooting handguns, but I got a G17 9mm that I can hit cans with fairly regular at 20 yrds. I’m very impressed with it. Draw backs are no safety, which bothers me carrying in a conceal fashion, but for plain shooting, just can’t go wrong IMO...

Because they are good guns that look cool without breaking the bank.
What about the Glock 7, you know what that is? It's a porcelain gun made in Germany. It doesn't show up on airport metal detectors and probably costs more than what you make in a month.

H&K was selling the polymer framed VP 70 before Sig or Glock either one were even formed.

They are inexpensive, easy to clean/maintain, accurate enough, and as reliable as death and taxes. Glock is the '84 Toyota pickup of the firearm world.

That kept me away for years. Just didn't like them and we're not the best shooters for me...
Once I started carrying a semi auto concealed I always questioned wether or not it would go bang. And my carry was a quality weapon but compared to my wheelgun I just always had a hint of doubt.
I settled on buying a Glock knowing who gives a shite how it looks but the fact it will go bang pretty much no matter what sold me.
It matters.
