Why is Sonic so slow compared to other fast food places?

I hate Sonic but my wife loves it for their ice or whatever and now my kids like it.
I mostly hate it because it’s so ungodly slow. I swear I waited 30 minutes for a Diet Coke with extra ice once when my wife was pregnant.
Why are they so ungodly slow?

I never wait more than 10 minutes. I expect it going in as well because I customize my order to ensure it's freshly made. If you waited 30 minutes for one drink and didn't get out of your car to go in or press the button to ask what's up, that's retarded on your part.

Depending on when you went, there can be 30+ cars full of people ordering at the same time.
If you were in a single drive through line with that many people, 30 mins to get your order is pretty quick

Corporate rules require them to give the customer adequate time to show their knuckles before being interrupted by having their food delivered.
