It doesn’t get Eddie Vedder than this
Haven't even gotten to work yet and this response is gonna be the peak of my day
Samesies
Can’t believe I’m gonna have an entry on the /classic board finally. Even if just a footnote

Woof. Usually I have to go to the Music Board for shitty takes like this.
But it’s true though.

This is the kind of retarded thread that you have to start on OT, because the Music Board would roast you.

Though it’s irrelevant because Scott Weiland and STP ruled that era.
No not even close. They’re not even in the top ten of that era.

Eddie Vedder invented the yawrl and scott stapp continued it.
all they do is extend their lower jaw out and yawrl.

Vedder it’s his writing. Those first two albums are great. With a handful of B-sides too. After Versus he waned like most. Albums with only 3-4 good/great songs and then filler.
Full disclosure I am a complete Pearl Jam homer.
I tune into the Pearl Jam XM station for the live cuts pretty often.
I didnt realize so many people didn't like Vedder.

Yeah, but Stone Temple Pilots is an afterthought of that era. Handful of decent songs and a bunch of garbage.
bullshite. Even their first album Core is a front to back great listen with some awesome songs.

Creed is post-grunge. The word "post" should tell you all you need to know.
I don’t even consider Creed grunge at all. More like traditional hard rock. Seems like having a ballad and traditional song structure defeats any grunge relation. Also songs with writing that is uplifting or neutral, not really dark. My Own Prison is kinda dark but more about self-realization than overall gloom.

People shite on creed because its the cool thing to do, but Stapp has a good rock voice.
Posted on 9/4/25 at 10:01 am to Meauxjeaux
Because Pearl Jam >>>>>>> Creed
And at the height of Creed's popularity Scott Stapp had an incredibly punchable face. The guy from 311 agreed.

Layne Staley was grunge before it was even a thing.
The story of how Staley became the singer of Alice In Chains is hilarious.
Staley turned them down multiple times so the band said “At least sit in some auditions and help us pick out someone”.
The band picked out some absolute clowns to come and try out. At one point Staley got fed up and said “Alright!! I’ll friken do it!”

Vedder is definitely cooler. More charismatic. Better singer.
I agree, but not by much.

Exactly. Those guys were grunge in the mid-late 80s. Mother Love Bone, which was Pearl Jam minus Vedder, formed in '88.

Both are extremely popular, and Pearl Jam is a superior band that is multi-generational

Eddie Vedder lives here in West Seattle. He hangs out at Easy Street Records in West Seattle and is considered to be a good guy with no pretense. His home, although nice, is pretty modest given his wealth.

Yep, just look at how grunge Layne was in this 1987 pic.

The "Warehouse" (Music Bank) in Ballard sounds like it was a very interesting place.

Most people who grew up in that era couldn’t name 3 of the songs on that album.

Mad Season
An absolutely incredible album...still holds up.
To me, that's the album that closed the grunge era. And it was a perfect way to say goodbye.
There are some youtube videos out there of Pearl Jam's radio broadcast called "Monkeywrench Radio" where you can see some of the guys playing a few Mad Season tracks in studio...badass. And, of course, Live at the Moore. I think we're up to 3 members of that line-up now being dead from ODs if you include Lannegan.

Plush hit #1 on the Charts
Creep hit #2
Wicked Garden topped out just outside of the Top 10
Sex Type Thing was top 40
that's 4 very well know STP songs from that album that still get radio play today.
plus people from that era would also likely be able to name Dead and Bloated
so that's 5 songs that would be named by people who were around at that time.
