It isn't safe.

It's a littered mess and unattractive to visitors.

Too many posters hit on it to quote them all. A vibrant downtown needs more than office workers who go home at the end of the day. Even Dallas' downtown has a problem with that. There are nearby areas that have more activity but not 'downtown' Dallas. With more people living downtown, businesses will move in to support them.

Even tourists are generally only there for the weekend or events. Businesses need a more consistent demand.

I'm not a big government guy but there needs to be residential development plan along with business incentives to grow in tandem. Miss either of these and growth won't happen. Of course, safety has to be there for residents and businesses alike.

It's a complex problem that requires coordination. The end result can be better for the city than before 'big govt' got involved.

Urban downtowns are always a shithole. Subrban downtowns (Hammond, Amite, Ponchatoula, Denham?) seem to be the thing now.

Baton Rouge.

Some of you may recall before CAMD was built ( and The Town Center at Cedar Lodge shopping area) , that entire area was to be a LSU Research Park.

LSU had planned to build a research area with CAMD as its' anchor . Well we can see how that played out.

Why I mention this is that for the last 15 years I've been talking to anyone who would listen that the area of Baton Rouge north of LSU and between Highland Rd. and Nicholson(and south of I-10) should be purchased by LSU in order to build a true research park complete with student(only) housing. That area in turn could help re -invigorate downtown.

I have talked with several developers and they seem to be interested but unfortunately I believe that the state legislature and the governor would have to sign off on this endeavor.

When are we getting our trolleys? One down Nicholson and government would be used.

Great idea if you want to turn LSU more ghetto.

Kip was pushing it to come back. He saw the vision.

SWB didn’t want all the bars jumping and packed with people.

Wish another mayor would come along and want to keep that going

Yes that is a start.

I would like to see LSU do something much larger.

Develop some restaurants that overlook the river.

You have to have a developer interested in developing.

The open container laws do help prevent loitering, which was starting to become an issue when downtown was popular.

Downtown is crawling with homeless/bums with the current rules in place. May as well make it more amenable to revelers.

I live downtown. Very convenient, safe as a male, and I like to walk everywhere

Of course Monday to Thursday early morning to mid afternoon is slow.

Tuesday is busy with the run club at Happys. Wednesday and Thursday are slow nights. Friday and Saturday is the peak of course.

We could use more residents who actually live here going out. I go out drinking 1-3 times per week and it’s always a chill time. I can definitely see how the hip and new spots draw a bigger crowd.

Parking situation could be helped as in being charged too much by the lot owners. We could use more late night food options and maybe a new venue for entertainment. Idk. I think people are already set in their habits of where they go out depending on where they live

BR was screwed from the start. Some downtown areas are more centrally located. Downtown BR is on one end of the city that borders the Mississippi River. The only way it could possibly be worse would be if it were in a corner of the city with an absolute barrier on both sides.

They also could pressure wash the side walks, fix a few lights, have business owners spruce up their storefronts, let food trucks park on 3rd at night. Idk I like living here since I’m close to work.

Perfectly safe once again for the people who do not visit. The biggest annoyance is the 2-10 semi permanent homeless people who are here instead of shelters. Most will not even speak, the few that do ask for a dollar but you answer no or simply no response and they keep it moving. I personally don’t want to see these people bumming around. They should be sent to shelters or other areas away from us. Bus tickets to cali plz

There’s a lot of potential down here but the people will complain instead of stepping up.
