Did it in 2008 after the National Championship game. Fun, but that long arse route sucked.

Other parade performers have a lot more rhythm than the LSU band.

I saw something really cool during Pontchartrain before Pygmalion on St Charles feb 3rd.

McDonough 35 Band was killing "Invincible" By Pat Benatar.

That song was the title track from 1985 movie "Legend of Billie Jean" and I'm willing to bet $3.50 not a single kid knew that song before getting the sheet music. But it's a timeless pop jam and they were in to it for sure. To hear the horns playing the chorus was bad arse. csb

I don't know why they don't do it very often. This was 2004, shortly after winning the 2003 National Championship:

1) It cost too much money for the Krewes to afford it.

2) For the Krewes that can afford it students would rather see the parade rather than march in it.

When it does happen someone has to call in a favor to make it happen.

One main reason is getting band members to commit and practice during the winter break and before Mardi Gras.

The Human Jukebox (SU band) continues to practice after football season during December and January to prepare for Mardi Gras. Marching in a 5 mile parade is way different than the pregame march to the stadium and a halftime show. I imagine if you haven't been practicing showing up a Mardi Gras and marching and playing for 4 hours has to suck.

Seems cheaper than getting A&M, they wouldn't even need a hotel.

Just cut their stipend if they don’t wanna do it. It is great exposure for the band, if they don’t wanna do it they should lose the money.

Because most of the band members couldn’t finish the route

LSU marches in it whenever they play in the Sugar Bowl. They haven't made the Sugar Bowl since 2011, and the band was shot at, so they haven't been back.

35’s band director is one of the last of a breed from another era.

Guys like that would listen to songs no one paid attention to and arrange it to sheet music and it’ll be a hit in the band world.

I've done a 4 mile one before With snare and harness and having to play the entire route. That shite sucked arse. Would much rather be drinking on the sideline

They march when Rex has has asked and LSU has been available. It has nothing to due with the sugar bowl. The year LSU led Rex it was at his request.
