I remember in the mid 1980s, LSU was the lead off band in Bacchus. They hadn't marched in a Mardi Gras parade in a bunch of years prior to that. I remember it was a really big deal that they were leading off Bacchus.

Nobody got the whole A&M band. It was just a little military unit of about 20 or so guys, I believe.

Then why do other universities in LA march? Not as big of a band? they arent off either? They dont even send the entire band for away games, why would they have to send the entire band to mardi gras? Havent they also marched in parades out of state before?

pussies I marched the longer Metairie route throughout middle and high school with a crazy band director that made us keep our arms at 90 degrees the whole time. To hear young adults bitch about a parade route. psshh.

They have before, as others have pointed out.
LSU didn't do any Mardi Gras parades during my 4 years, and I'm glad for that, I have some great memories of going to NOLA for Mardi Gras during my LSU days. Usually with friends of mine from Tiger Band.

I was watching something about Ireland recently and they showed a St. Patty’s Day parade in Dublin, LSU was marching in it. I think they can pull off NOLA.

Of course they could.
Also there's no need for all 325 people, since it's a Spring semester event there's no guarantee that all the kids from the previous Fall are even enrolled or want to participate.

Kids gave up their fall band stipend to go to Ireland. So that was different. Tiger Band does not exist in the spring, so you would have to pay 325 kids money, plus bus and food to do it. 75k is approximate number.

$75k is doable for a Bacchus or Endymion but that’s about it. I think the Endymion budget was over $5 million this year. I will say that there would be some recruiting value to having LSU participate in MG and I am a bit surprised they don’t make some sort of effort to appear.

The years Tiger Band marched in REX, 3 members of REX stepped up and paid $50,000 to the band. The Krewe didn't, but 3 members of the Krewe did. Most krewes just don't have the money and most don't have TRUE OT ballers like REX does. If someone comes up with the money, LSU will march in MG.
