The theme was the saints a couple years back. Strief is on my float too.

Hey this is the same BS the south claimed as the reason for the Civil War.

It’s not that we WANT slaves, it’s that we want the OPTION of slaves. We don’t want you to tell us NOT to have them, that’s why we have them. Rationale of a 15 year old girl right there

It wasn’t really slavery they gave them a place to live and let them work on Sunday for extra money

It wasn’t like they were forced to dig the canals like the Irish were

A girl who stood in my wedding was queen of Comus. Needless to say, they were the elite of the elite in regards to Mardi Gras. Most members were interchangeable with Rex and a good number rode with both Krewes. As a member previously stated, could care less about the late afternoon ride and just worried about getting to the ball.

All you Wops, Micks and Krauts have no respect. You would never have your "Super Krewes" like Bacchus, Endymyon, and Muses without the old line Krewes. All pale and debauched mere copies of nobility.

Although as a young kid I loved hanging out with family and friends for a few hours Uptown waiting for Comus after all the other parades passed, what I remember is a parade that went by in about five minutes with about 5 guys on each float looking like they were drunk/depressed and about to fall off the float. I did like the old-school floats, but even with almost no one on the streets for the parade, you still were lucky just to catch a couple of beads.

And that is the crux of the problem right there. The most outstanding New Orleanian of the last 30 years is an outsider and will always be an outsider. Even if you fixed crime and education, why would a Bezos or Musk, or Hell, any Fortune 500 company want to locate there? They can go to any other city and be big swinging dicks. In New Orleans they'd be considered interlopers for the next four generations.

Atlanta and Houston dont have time for that jibberjabber.

You're absolutely right. It's absolutely the "old money" types in NOLA that are why the city is stagnant and broke.. And if you think Atlanta, Houston, New York or any other major US city does not have a "club" of families who have done nothing more than lasted a few hundred years there you're being naive. I think you're overvaluing Comus and undervaluing "roots".

The Irish were not forced to dig but they wanted to work and it was all they had to do . We were also more expendable than slaves.

As to Brees, I have seen him at multiple balls though I am not certain if he has joined any to date. Outside of two balls, you can get into any of the organizations if you truly desire.

Houston is about 120 years younger than NOLA. River Oaks has a lot of old money.

Atlanta is about 130 years younger than NOLA.

The problem with the old money here is that historically it has controlled the city politicians, and by extension, the major contracts. That seems to be softening a little at a time.

NOLA still takes a skewed glance at oursiders, but the new mayor is one and beat someone who is very much part of the elite.

I agree. He doesn't want his name associated with anything that would be considered exclusionary.

Plus, he'll only be living here a few more years then it's off to California once he's retired.

Mardi Gras Enemy #1...

After all the discussion going on here, what about a new krewe to parade on Tuesday night?

Several years back, I participated and maybe started a thread on an offshoot of this subject, i.e. will Comus ever let any new blood in?

I'm of the opinion if they don't they are going to simply die out as the jobs that the blue bloods had for their children "ain't 'dere no more"...lots of their children are having to leave NOLA...

thoughts please...
