I know a few people that attend these old NOLA Mardi Gras functions and it’s not because they want to, it’s becuase they have to and they absolutely hate it.

Which is a shame because I would absolutely LOVE to go. Tradition and standing are wasted on some.

Glass, will you be attending the soirée this year? I’m unable to make it as young Carter has a croquet match at Martha’s. I’ve given my invitations to my butler, Jeeves. Do tell him hello, won’t you?

How much is Brees worth?

Says $130 million here, but I bet it's much more.

Still, Brees wouldn't be the richest individual in the prominent societies you're referencing.

Several years back, I participated and maybe started a thread on an offshoot of this subject, i.e. will Comus ever let any new blood in?

I'm of the opinion if they don't they are going to simply die out as the jobs that the blue bloods had for their children "ain't 'dere no more"...lots of their children are having to leave NOLA...

thoughts please.

They do, you just don't know about it. Its the same bloodlines and society members. Chaos being an example.

The Comus parade always sucked, so I didn't feel any great loss.

I always heard these old Krewes actually were more of a Jew and Protestant thing? Any truth to that?

No. I mean they are more for Protestants and jews than Catholics

But maybe i misheard, and they are for Protestants and less for Jews and Catholics.

I am certain I was told they were Protestant over Catholic however

No Jews. Some Catholics. I know a guy, very upstanding that was not allowed to join a major uptown krewe (still parading) because he was a Jew. He’s also a captain of another krewe

Maybe that’s changed, but last I heard, it had not. Just kinda unspoken rules

There are a good number of Catholics though. Has to be. It’s New Orleans

I think you have this backwards...Jews were blocked from the real blue blood organizations in years past...not sure what things are looking like today...

I think you'd find a really heavy Catholic membership in the blue blood organizations...

They were trying to be forced to add members of color and they did not want an "open" membership!

No white person I've ever known would be allowed in either. It's pretty exclusive and not for baws, of any shade.

I know for certain I was told the opposite, which surprised me considering south La. I was told it was created by and for Protestants (Comus this is)and they basically shined their arse at Catholics to start

These krewes, you’re born into. Rarely are you asked to join. And if you are its because you’re heavily entrenched in Nola business and the right arms of philanthropy.

Brees isn't the richest individual in his own company.

Aside from the Bensons obviously, how many people/family in Nola are worth $130M+? The old money types were politicians and lawyers, right? What do they do nowadays?
Or is it mostly real estate holdings and art collections?
