re: Why does south Louisiana hate North Louisiana?

When I was at LSU, I dated a girl from New Orleans. After graduation, I moved to New Orleans and continued dating her.
Her grandparents were in their 70's, and the family gave them a trip to Hawaii for their 50th wedding anniversary. It was the first time her grandmother had ever been outside of New Orleans.
I found it odd that quite a few people I knew in New Orleans were almost unaware that anything existed outside of the city. Other than sports and politics, they were oblivious to the rest of the world.
I later lived in New York for quite a few years and found it to be completely different. New Yorkers have a fierce pride and love for New York, but they don't have the cocoon-like existence I saw in so many New Orleans residents.

I must confess
I never thought much about Louisiana north of the instep
That’s just Mississippi type/standard country folk to me

At one time New Orleans was the stat's economic engine. Now it's a drain on the economy and tax base.

Imagine what Louisiana could have been without the low class populism of Huey Long that still has a hold on the State.

The only places worse than LA...Oakland and Oahu.

Different region entirely... South Louisiana is multicultural and was settled by French, Spanish, German, Irish, and African immigrants. North Louisiana (with a couple of small exceptions such as Natchitoches) were settled along folkways from the Carolinas and Virginia. Even the descendants of slaves in both regions come from very different cultures.

Most of the pioneer families in my section came from Georgia or South Carolina by way of Alabama. our settlement had more in common with the west than with S. LA., with people arriving by wagon train. There were cattle drives here up until around the 1950s.
Fun fact: The American bison inhabited parts of Louisiana until the early 1800s.

I've hated the Cowboys since year one. 1960

My dad has always hated them because in the sixties they always got the terrible Cowboys on TV instead of the great Green Bay teams.

Yeah, I mean they had kids and then grandkids. But you're right, they're pretty ridiculous.

Really? I must have imagined the millions of tourists that come into said city spending money. Without NO, pretty much nobody from out of state would step foot in Louisiana other than getting gas while driving through. Now, is NO in decline and less of an engine than it used to be because of horrendous mismanagement? Absolutely. Doesn’t mean it isn’t still the engine though.

I'm convinced that the only reason that North Louisiana hasn't become a part of Arkansas is because south Louisiana needs the tax money. It sure isn't going towards the roads in North Louisiana. At least not the major ones that matter. Frick south Louisiana.
Oh, this again.
1. I find the complaint about roads pretty funny. Have you spent much time on the roads in south LA lately?
2. The vast majority of Louisiana’s population - 3.4 million of the state’s 4.6 million people, almost 75% - live in the southern part of the state. The BR and NOLA metro areas alone account for 46% of the state’s population. Over 70% of the state’s gas/diesel tax revenue, the primary source of DOTD funding, is collected in south Louisiana. But sure, bitch about your perception that our shitty roads are better than your shitty roads.
3. I’ve made jokes to friends of mine from Monroe (among other places) about how they grew up in “south Arkansas.” Other people make jokes about tomatoes in gumbo. They’re jokes. Nobody (outside of a few trolls on the internet, maybe) hates y’all. Some of you are just so goddamned insecure about it that you take it personally.

I’ve honestly never met anyone who really thought about North LA much less hated them. Seems extreme

These threads are exactly why Louisiana will always be last in almost every metric. It’s such a divided state. People act like they are all about the boot but they are actually only all about their part of the boot.
Idiots. South Louisiana is cool if you’re younger and don’t have children. North Louisiana is more family friendly. You go to college in South LA, you settle down in North LA.
