We have cancelled three days of school and all city buildings are closed, again, because on one inch of snow. What the living frick! My Northern friends make fun of us...and they're right. We are fricking pussies!

Because DOTD is not prepared for snow or ice covered roads.

Went to grad school in Wisconsin for longer than I'd care to admit. We never once had a snow day. And the busses always ran on time. Even in a blizzard. Even during the polar vortex.

The South is funny about this shite, its true.

because the department of transportation's don't have it in the budget to deal with frozen roads. nor do the citizens have the vehicles to deal with it. pretty simple.

Because it usually only happens once every ten years.

Because why would all of these cities and states invest in that expensive equipment and what not when this shite happens once like every 5-10 years. C'mon man.

They don't have the equipment to deal with it. It's pretty much as simple as that.

It's not a blizzard. We shut things down the day before for the threat of snow. The threat!

It's almost as if your northern friends live in places where this happens regularly and thus have the infrastructure to deal with it swiftly and make the roads safe.

The south doesn't get snow anywhere near as often and so they don't waste money on the things they need to prepare for the ice.

If by that you mean twice a year, you're right.

Because when it snows 5 times in a decade, you don't have the infrastructure in place to handle even a little bit of precipitation.

Why do some places close when it gets really hot?

Because they don't have central AC and it isn't something they deal with a lot.

We don't have the equipment and preparation to deal with it. It doesn't freeze often enough to have they equipment. It is really genuinely unsafe.

Really?

The south isn’t equipped for this type of weather...when was the last time it iced/snowed over twice in the same year?

The same can be said for rain storms in the north and northeast. Give LA 6 inches of rain and you’ll have to mindful of the conditions but not much shuts down.
That happens elsewhere and you are talking about catastrophic flooding.

No snow tires
No snow plows
Only enough salt for interstates
Bridges everywhere
Drivers have no experience driving on ice.

Because people here can't drive in the rain. What makes you think they can drive on ice?

I know. It's hard to comprehend that whether events have different impacts on different regions.

I've seen it snow in South LA maybe 5 times in my life, and two of those happened this year.
