The Tundra doesn't make any sense either. They gulp down about 50% more fuel than the domestic trucks. The economics of owning a truck that burns that much more fuel just doesn't add up.

Those trucks only appeal to people that would rather buy from a Nissan or Toyota dealership than save money in the long run.

I am not in the Market for truck but I would atleast consider one if I was in the market. The 2020 model was Nissan's answers to all the complaints about the previous generation.

Better Engine and Transmission than before and improved gas mileage. Even the interior looks better. It cannot compete with RAM, Ford or Chevy, but the 2020 model is a better model than before.

No it does not.

The vk56de makes 400hp and gives 22 mpg.

I had a 2009 Titan until recently. Had it for 11 years and 205,000 miles. Not a single mechanical issue.

People don't talk about them or shite on them because it's not what they have.

So between 18,000 and 19,000 miles per year. At 14MPG you are buying about 1350 gallons of fuel per year and spending $4050 on fuel every year. You could have gotten a Ford or Chevy (19 mpg) and burned about 975 gallons per year, spending about $2980 on fuel in that time.

4050-2980 is about $1070. So over those 11 years, you could have saved $11,770 on fuel costs alone by going with a Chevy or Ford from the same time frame.

Sorry, but that Titan is a money pit and was a terrible decision. Don't encourage more people to do something stupid just because you did.

A Nimitz class aircraft carrier has a tighter turning radius than a Titan

I have one. 2018. 21mpg on hwy, 24 city.

Factory warranty is 100k miles. Not sure any other truck company provides this. It's plain but dependable.

16 city/22 highway. Averages around 17-18 on a good day. A significant improvement over the previous generation model because of the better transmission. But still not competitive with the class leaders and top sellers (Ford and GM).

IMO they need to offer a smaller, more fuel efficient engine for people that don't need 400 horsepower. Maybe even a small 3.0L Diesel like the domestic truck makers are doing. Even if Nissan fixed all of that right now, it would take years for the public perception to change.

I saved about that or more when I purchased it in the beginning.

I bought that truck for around $31k in 2009. To get a Chevy with a comparable engine (~5.6 V8) it would have been over $40

And I averaged 17-19 HWY and 14 City. I averaged over 16

It's not a truck that will wow you with a fancy interior or anything but it's a solid machine.
I might have to disagree with this. My friend has a Titan and I’m nervous riding in it. The thing sounds like it’s on the verge of falling apart the whole ride. He said he needs to get a new truck soon but doesn’t have the funds yet.

I got a Silverado LT with the 320 horsepower engine for about $29,000 in 2008. I had the cab and a half with 4 wheel drive. A crew cab would have probably been another couple of grand. Prices were right in line with the Titan at the time when I bought mine.

It just doesn't add up. Nissan's competitive pickup truck is the Frontier, not the Titan. Aging technology is more forgiving in that segment. And Nissan offered massive discounts on the Frontier until 2019. IMO THAT truck is the best value in the class.

I had a 2017 for 3 years. It was a solid truck. Not fancy, outdated interior, but rode really good and had plenty of power.

The problem is that while they improved it, the domestic trucks also improved. They are still playing catch up.

It would need to come with significant savings over the domestics to overcome the higher operating costs. And I don't think Nissan has particularly big discounts on the Titan right now.

I think they need an engine with better fuel economy, even if it's down about 50-60 horsepower from the 5.6L engine. Yes, they have the most standard horsepower in the class.....but they have nothing if you are willing to forgo some horsepower for better fuel economy. Having one engine has really pigeonholed the Titan as being competitive in a very narrow set of circumstances. It needs more broad appeal with a wider variety of engines. Or they need to figure out how to get more MPG out of the 5.6L V8.

The next generation Tundra will be interesting. They are likely putting a turbocharged 3.5L V6 under the hood and the 5.0L V8 from Lexus. This means they are ditching the 5.7L completely. So they'll likely have similar or better power output but significantly better fuel economy. If they can get the MPG's to be close to similar models from Ford and GM, they will do EXTREMELY well.

Have a First Gen. Love it. It's a beast.

Gets hate cos it doesn't have an iPad stapled to the dash like modern trucks, but it's dependable, comfortable, and does what you need a truck to do. It's not a commuter car like a lot of people want their trucks to be, but it's a great truck.

Fuel economy does indeed suck. No doubt. But again, know what you want it to do.
