It's not, this is hyperbole. But minorities (race, gender, sexual orientation, religion) are proportionately over-represented in a noticeable amount of media.
Many factors involved but it boils down to a lot of really smart business people figured out who they need to cater to in order to improve their bottom line. They made a plan and now they're working their plan, despite the outrage of whitey.

I don't really get it
This board is the only place where I hear whining about interracial couples on TV. I'm guessing it's because this board 1) watches a lot of shitty network shows and/or 2) has a bunch of people who mysteriously notice when a white guy is married to a slightly brown girl on TV, whereas most people DGAF and don't notice.
The gay thing is whatever. I mean, if you live in a big suburb or city you're gonna run into gay people with frequency, and TV reflects that. Maybe a little overrepresented, but whatever. Now if it were trans shite it'd be different.

The board will tell you something about liberals and trying to push an agenda on everyone, but in reality.. TV is based on ratings, the more people who watch the higher the ratings.. Which means the more networks can charge for commercials.
So in order to get more people to watch, they add characters that more people can relate to..
If someone is gay what are they more likely to watch? A show with a similar story that doesn't include a gay person or a similar story that does include a gay person?
As for as inter-racial marriages, they are more interracial marriages today than ever before and the amount continues to grow. Not to mention, by using interracial couples you can reach two different demographic groups.

It’s for advertisement. Are you questioning the business practices? I think Apple, google, Chevy, and ford know what they’re doing. These types of ads obviously affect more people positive than negative.
