Just because they don't use water doesn't mean they clean without getting it wet.

why was I downvoted so much? If I took a shirt to get drycleaned and the bill was $5 I wouldn't think twice. Obviously if you take 9 items the bill is going to be higher..

5 dollars for a dress shirt is astronomical

There are a lot of myths with "dry cleaning" that should be dispelled.

Shirts definitely need to be cleaned each time they are worn. Shirts should be laundered rather than dry cleaned if you are sending them to the cleaners. However, if you want them to last, just do it yourself. Put your shirts on the delicate cycle in your washer, cold water, air dry them, then iron or steam if they are 100% cotton, or wear if they are non-iron. If you are really persnickety, handwash them.

Pants and suits do not need to be dry cleaned with any sort of regularity. At most, once per season. I have garments that have never been dry cleaned (some have not even been sponged and pressed). Invest in a wool brush, and simply give your pants a brush after each wear. Wool is naturally self-cleaning and dumping it in a vat of chemicals does it zero service.

Learn to take care of your clothes. It takes about 10-20 minutes each week.

It's cheaper than getting married to a broad that washes and folds clothes, though.

Aside from a suit or wool coat, what would you be dry cleaning?

I just wash and iron.

Just picked up laundry. Five shirts and four pants. Spent almost $50.

That's about $35 at my dry cleaner.

Check your receipt. You probably paid extra for "Martinizing". It's an extra that you don't need but they'll charge you if you don't know better.

There is a small dry cleaning place about 2 miles up the road and I hardly every see any cars parked there. I stopped by and got their prices about a year ago and quickly decided I would just keep washing and ironing my own work uniforms. I swear there has to be some kind of funny business going on there for it to be in business. I don't know if it is money laundering, drugs, or what. But something fishy is going on there.

I never wash my dress clothes. Take them to the cleaners 3-5 tines a year. It is not that expensive when you think about it.

Almost every dry cleaners I've ever used puts coupons out all the time. These coupons usually cut their prices in half, or at least substantially cheaper than regular prices.

Just look in your circulars for coupons if you don't want to pay full price.

I travel all the time. I drop off one week's worth of clothes and pick up the next week's. You think I have time to dig around for coupons?

used to work for a dry cleaner in high school... was kinda surprised to find out all dry cleaning is is putting them all in a giant washing machine and washing them with a petroleum solution...it's def not dry, but not water I guess so there's that..

We were actually the dry cleaner Al Copeland sent his weird arse clothes to...they all got marked with a special tag so they would get special treatment.... they then got thrown in with everything else and he was charged about $20 an item.
