It's 2024. We have smart phones, A.I., we can send private citizens into space, but we still have to use God damn can openers. Is there a reason everything can't be converted to pop tops?

They’re used for cans.

Yes.

It has been quite the day for the OT. One dude ranting over centarians and another rustled over cans.

What do you have against the hard-working men and women at the can opener factory?

I’m of the opposite opinion. Thank god we will have some things that work Manually/mechanically. A digital word can come crashing g down with the slightest hiccup.

So you just want to make the majority of canned food more expensive. Honestly on larger cans (normal veggie sized cans not Vienna sausage sized cans) I would rather just use a can opener.

Makes no sense. A pop top is manual and doesn't require a prehistoric tool

Because pop top cans don’t have as long of a shelf life.

That's exactly my point. Why can't they all?

"They grew, harvested, processed, packaged, and shipped the food halfway across the country, why do I have to spend 10 seconds opening it?" - OP

Maybe they should eat and shite it for you too eh?

To open cans.

I’ve never been in the military. Since I was about 8 years old I’ ve carried a P-38 can opener. You always needed one when I was a kid to open any can. No pop tops.

How you going to open your potted meat and Vienna sausage if you don’t have a P-38?

Why do you have a problem using a can opener?
Do you have a problem using a bottle opener?

When I was a freshman in college my pot luck dorm roommate had never used a manual can opener, only the electric counter top one. I was a bit perplexed.

Bottle opener? Why not twist it off?

OP’s point is not about laziness but practicality. Why have a drawer full of unitasking tools when we don’t really need some of these tools anymore? If OP runs for President on the platform of requiring cans to have pull tops and bottles to have twist tops, he could be the next Joe Biden.
