There were people seeing that the US supposedly had 250 mass shootings this year while the no.2 Mexico somehow only had 3 and believed it.

Of course. Just not as frequently

I dont know how they calculate the statistics, but I'm guessing what are considered mass shootings in Mexico are different than here. Cartel violence and executions have far different motives than someone walking into Walmart and unloading.

We dont have a total monopoly on the latter, sociopathic type of killings but we are the leader, by far.

OTOH, Mexico seems to lead the world in mass executions via machete and then disposal in 55 gallon drums of acid.

They also have homes robbed while people are there because the criminals want to make sure they have all their valuables they carry on them as well.

Here crooks rob us while we are gone because there is a higher chance they will be shot

The article says a school shooting once a week.

A five or ten to one ratio would make the same point.

Nobody should count the jealous teacher shooting the school janitor for boning his wife in these statistics.

Count the Santa Fe, Tx, Columbine, et al.

I wonder what the killing rate would be compared to the shooting? I’m guessing still higher than other countries in the US, but why exclude stabbing, etc?

How many acid attacks do we have in comparison?
quote:

London (CNN) — London has become the world capital for acid attacks on young men, and street gangs are increasingly using "face melters" against their targets.

There was a record number of acid attacks in London in 2017, police data shows, as perpetrators turn to household cleaning products as weapons.
In response to a freedom of information request by CNN, data from the London Metropolitan Police showed a sharp rise in attacks, with 465 recorded in 2017, up from 395 the previous year and 255 in 2015. The attacks increased six-fold over six years.

So, motivation is the difference here?

“Random” is bad, but terrorism or gang / cartel activity is different?

I didnt make a moral judgment. The motive is clearly different. One is motivated by economics and a power struggle, the other is up for debate I suppose.

According to a few Republican politicians (im sure there are some democrats who will say the same thing, but so far I have only heard it from Trump, that Dan Patrick guy, not the sports Dan Patrick, some dude in Texas and some republican in California) video games is the problem (despite the fact they play video games all over the world).

The point is that you are randomly slicing off whatever doesn’t fit your narrative because “that’s politics” or “that’s economics” when all of it is violence aimed at the same types of locations.

These numbers are also inflated as they count suicides, misfires, and gang violence near the campus as school shootings

The 288 figure is way out of whack, but the point is still valid - the US has far more school shootings than other countries on a per capita basis.

It’s mostly just the simple fact that we have way more guns and way easier access to firearms than any other place on earth, with the 3rd highest amount of people.
Except there are some nations that require every citizen to be trained and/or own firearms, either through mandatory military civil service or simple law. (Israel and Switzerland for example, unless medically unfit for service)

That people are trying to narrowly tailor the definition of “school shooting” to make a dishonest argument, ignoring some of the mass school shootings and bombings other countries which have far bigger body counts then all of these 50+ incidents being listed in the original post.

As I mentioned above, Beslan alone had 300+ deaths and the immediate response someone had to it being brought up is “that’s different, that’s terrorism.”
