There's even talks of further extending the road straight from there.
To what? Vacherie? I would think a better idea would be finishing the 4-laning of 3127 and maybe tie it directly into LA 1.

Thanks for posting that

Graft and corruption.
In fairness to the Grammercy bridge, there's a road that connects it to 3127 now.

I don't see Westwego ever letting that happen.

dude, no one was clamoring for a new bridge in the BR Metro when the AB was funded or built. The WTF moments all came after traffic in the metro area was so insufferable. But the AB was either under construction or damn near ready to start by then.
Moreover, every time the discussion about a new bridge, loop, or anything else comes up the local politicians all start arguing about where to put it. I've watched LP, IP, and WBR all shite on the idea of anything new cause its not routed where the politicians want it.

It’s been tried before, almost a decade ago, when leaders set up an authority to pursue building a traffic loop around Baton Rouge. But the effort failed when they were unable to agree on proposed routes and where to locate the bridge

They can't even get out of their own way to get a solution. And that doesn't even address all the other issues (like funding) that are in the way.

That's an old pic of the Grammercy bridge. There's a lot of plant baws traveling that bridge before daylight. I go that way when headed to Grand Isle, faster than through Thib on 308.

Side note- as I've been told, the Gramercy bridge was originally intended to align with LA20 in Vacherie on the westbank, which would make more sense, since LA 20 goes all the way to Houma (LA24 extension) and also connects with LA 3127 as well. but there was a geological fault that forced the relocation to where it is, shifted a few miles east. I've heard there was a big land grab when those politically connected in the area heard of the bridge plans, expecting to make huge profits on re-sale for the bridge. But the fault upended that. Not sure how true.
This is true. My grandfather was one of ten men that purchased some property where the bridge was supposed to be built.

Theres alot of baws on that swampy straight stretch of hwy 20 in between south vacherie and chackbay that need their arse beat.

The majority of that would be 3127, it already has the land allocated for the 4 lanes. The only issue would be roads that exit directly on to it. There would need to be overpasses, like Hwy 90 in Iberia/St Mary. The tough part would be the farmers in Donaldsonville, who initially stopped it. There is a roadway to Gross Tete, it would need to be straightened and expanded. The connection to LA 1 would be the only hold up. This route literally touches five bridges that cross the river.

This makes to much sense. The politicians cant line their pockets with this option.

Why Do The Audubon & Gramercy Bridges Exist?

Somebody was thinking about the future. They won't have the problem of finding a place to put a loop in the future.

Both were built to replace ferries as were most of the bridges. Both were voted for by the people as well as the legislatures at the time. when the I-10 bridge was built in BR it put the current private ferry out of business.

The expressway seemed to be the downfall of the west bank.
Posted on 2/11/20 at 4:05 pm to canerow
We don't need 3127 extending through the historic farmlands in and around the Donaldsonville area.

You've made you point by keeping the potholes from the parish line in.

They built the Audubon bridge to make it easier for me to get to the deer lease in W. Feliciana.
Thank you corrupt politicians.
