You could ferry the number of cars

If you go back to 1976 or 1978 there was a big ferry accident at LaPlace that killed about 80 people on the River when a ship clipped the ferry. Gramercy and Boggs were built to avoid that ever happening again.

That’s about 8 cars a day for Audubon.

Is Gramercy the bridge that for the longest time had the super structure but no approaches built?

Yep, had many of fun times riding bikes, rollerblading and skateboarding over and down that bridge

You might be thinking of the accident in 1976 at Luling/Destrehan. 78 people were killed. The accident was right next to where the Hale Boggs Bridge is today.

That is it ....Luling. But I know the bridges were built to end the ferry system on that part of the river.

I bet that's about 15 minutes or less worth on the H.W.B.

shows how long I've been out of the area...

Knew about the Audubon, but this is the first time I've ever heard of the Gramercy bridge...NOW I understand the reason for the I-10 exit between Laplace and US-61...

just wondering if I'll see completion of the elevated West Bank expressway through Westwego and down to 310...just surprised (NOT - I did grow up on the wank after all) that no one made the connection about totally dodging NOLA traffic from the West Bank...

he one in Gramercy no longer dead ends. They have connected it to Hwy 3127 a couple of years ago

Like 15-18 years ago. I used it extensively before Katrina.

2014 average for the I-10 bridge in BR is 108,658. The difference between those numbers underscore what a mistake it was to put up the Audubon before putting up another Baton Rouge bride.
