Uh....I was taught right foot for gas and break and left foot for high beams. I wouldn't even be able to reach that high beam button with my right foot. I'm short! I could barely reach it with my left!

I realize I'm showing my age but my first car had the highbeam "foot switch" on the floor. It was right next to the brake. I preferred that to the modern switch on the steering wheel. I'm guessing they took it off the floor for safety reasons, i.e., you'd typically take your foot off the brake if you wanted to flash your brights at someone while you were stopped.

The highbeam footswitch was the greatest, they should have never gone away from it. In high school I had my girlfriend convinced my highbeams were voice activated.

Most times they aren't actually even using the high beams. These regular led headlights are just so fricking bright in some models that it just looks like high beams.

I get people flashing me several times a week when it’s just my dims on. I have factory headlights in a 2021 GMC Sierra with no lift kit. Gets pretty annoying.

button on the floorboard to the left of the clutch that you'd hit with your foot? That's where I remember it being. early 80s ford step side.

Many newer model vehicles have automatic dimmers that do not function properly.

Auto dimmer functions have been prevalent since 2010 at least.

Calibrated to read incoming lights from approaching vehicles. If that vehicle does not have the ultra bright lumen power led or xenon headlights your lights may not be sufficient to trigger autodimmers in oncoming newer model vehicles.

Add to that the extremely high percentage of SUVs
and pickup trucks whose headlights are basically at eye level for passenger cars and the fact that nobody is in the habit of manually dimming their lights and one can " see " how this problem has become so prevalent

people flash their high beams at me all the time. My truck is 100% OEM from the factory like it is and I can't help that my lights are bright even in dim mode. I'm not sure how people drive around with yellow headlights. I tried to drive my wife's car the other night and couldn't see shite.

One way to know if someone is approaching you has their brights on before you flash your peasant lights at them is look for the fog lights. If they are on, the high beams aren't.

My mom's (no pics) 1988 Lincoln Towncar had the auto dimmer function in it. They've been around a while.

Same reason people litter, drive like idiots, don't use turning signal, etc.

Highest % is black women that are missing a headlight and won’t replace it so they blind my arse going to work every morning. I know this is true because I’ve asked them.

when I was young, I kept a Q-beam on the seat of my truck just for occasions when other motorists failed to dim their lights. One flash of a q-beam and they typically get the message quickly. I clipped along just fine with this philosophy until one night I shined the Q-beam on a police officer….he was not amused!

Sometimes my auto high beams are a dick to people. Blame the engineers.

There is a specific turn in my neighborhood where I will hit a dark spot because of the location of the street light with the trees and it always turns my high beams on. But, because of the location of the dark spot and the way the street arcs, it will flash in the face of any driver at the stop sign for the upcoming intersection about 20 feet away. Always feel like a dick when it happens, especially bc it makes me laugh; but still don't click the button to stop it from happening

That's not why people don't use turn signals. They think only suckers let other people know what they're about to do.

Oh horseshite. That's one of the dumbest reasons I have ever heard.

Laziness, pure and simple.

A lot of drivers are simply terrible. These are the same people who drive the speed limit in the left hand lane and do not move over when you flash your lights. They also cannot mere onto the interstate.

That's a good idea, then you are both good and blinded while driving at each other.
