I feel the same with lightning, like a lightning strike, so many people type lightening and say it that way as well

Yeah, the entire English language is all jacked up. I’m glad I never had to learn it after speaking another language.
When I was in the first grade learning to read I had to stand up and read a paragraph and it had the word signal in it. I knew the word sign but wasn’t familiar with sign al and no idea how to make sense of it. So much pressure…..haha.. luckily the little girl who was labeled retarded back in that day took a big crap in her chair and I was off the hook…

there a group that this pacifically relates to?
I feel like I’ve heard it from uneducated/hokey people from many demographics.
Similar to the schtick that John Kennedy does

I don't know. Educate us since you must know and we don’t.

True story, I’m 50 years old and starting about 5 years ago, I couldn’t pronounce the words carport or cardboard correctly. My wife makes fun of me all the time. It comes out caaaardbored and caaaarpooort. It’s weird. Probably aids.

I've literally never heard anyone pronounce it the ways you just described

It’s a freshman mistake.

It was Woden’s (North Germanic high god) day.
Originally Wod-en-es-daeg
Became contracted to Wod’n-es-daeg
Which became Wodnesdai
And became standardized as three-syllable Wednesday when they started using the printing press.
Then the lazy Brits contracted it again the pronounce it as Wens-day with just two syllables and the d became silent.

Frank Broyles was a prolific user of the three-syllable version.

Never heard south more
I’ll bet I’ve heard this 1000 times.
Maybe it’s because I have lived in South Louisiana for 65 of my 68 years.
Where are you?

San antone
And you’re probably right. My accent is so southern (apparently) that people don’t even think I am from here…
