Why do so many people like to lie about how many steps they take a day?

I got coworkers claiming 10-15K steps and they barely want to get off their arse to get work done. Mostly with big pot bellies.

Could have stopped here. I don’t think it’s quite as bad as in real life, but this site is obsessed with lying. Truly psycho behavior.
And not just being outlandish as part of a bit. Just neurotic type shite

Hey, I deserve an entire cake too on days where I hit my 10k steps.
And it's carrot cake so it's basically a vegetable

Walking to the bathroom or kitchen shouldn’t be loggable exercise. Step counters have ruined people’s perception.

There was once a group that gave a reward if they could prove they had taken the 10,000 steps.
Some went to stupid tricks like attaching their smart watch to animals just to run up the numbers...a dog's tail or something like that.

I will happily support a ban. The fat admin going home and saying, “I don’t need to go for my casual 1 mile walk this afternoon” because she walked back and forth to the kitchen 3 times is inexcusable.
Also a 1 mile walk burns maybe 100 calories so keep shoving that 3000 calorie lunch down your throat.

ask them to show you their fitbit app? i have worn a luxe tracker for the past 3 years and 10k is nothing; when i'm doing yardwork that number can go as high as 25k but don't think i've ever hit 30k steps in a day.

Because my real number is embarrassingly low….obviously.

I think step counters are good for an overall idea of how active you are - not necessarily a measurement of exercise.

Doubt anyone considers that exercise. But a step is a step.

Every iPhone comes with that little health app that logs steps relatively accurately. Good way to call someone's bluff is to ask them to pull that app up.

I think it’s a similar dynamic to when a heavy person tells you how to diet. They all seem to be experts. Im not intentionally trying to make light of that but it’s something I’ve noticed.

I have no clue how many steps I take in a day.
I thought the fad of counting them died out like 7-8 years ago.

Or how much healthier it is to not eat processed foods.
