It's not something to brag about.

It's like bragging that you no longer beat your wife.

I don’t have a ton of sympathy for them either but at least they aren’t high and killing people or committing crimes if they’re at a social gathering with other sober folks

Encouraging people who are trying to turn their lives around isn’t a bad thing. I’ve never seen anyone treat them like heroes though

Would you rather they continue to be fricked up and fully in their addiction?

You’re probably one of those dumbasses heckling fat people at the gym while bitching about too many people in the US being fat.

why do we pretend 13% of the population doesn’t commit the majority of violent crime in this country?

No one who has been addicted is ever cured. They are just one slip away from going back and can never be trusted.

And tax payer dollars are used to as an incentive for companies to hire these people.
So companies actually have a financial interest in hiring the former drug addict/felon over the life long law abiding citizen.
I have worked with a few addicts who got clean. Still made bad life decisions- women in their life, financial decisions, etc

Because coming out of addiction is something most ppl never come out of, yes we put ourselves there, but coming out that hole is honestly the most difficult thing i have ever done.

This is admirable.

However, every person that seems to drop a casual, ‘I’m 5-years sober’ at a get together is usually doing so in a morally superior attitude. It’s annoying because many people can enjoy things without becoming addicted to a point that it wrecks their life.

You are ignorant to it so will.never understand.

No it is not, coming out of it is 24hr struggle that can last months. You are also an addict for life and fight it everyday.

I dont do the sober thing. We did coins my first year with presents for every sober month.

But now it is just what you have to do, the hard work has already been put in.

I talk soo much about lifting, BJJ and cardio because these are daily routines that keep me sober, esp BJJ.

Even if you’re right, it’s a positive for us as a society to incentive people to stop being addicts and start being productive members of society.

I was at a social gathering a few years ago and some guy started bragging about being "5 years sober".
All of the hens starting showering praise as if the guy just announced that he cured cancer.
I said "hey, if you think that's impressive, I'm 27 years sober" (because I was 27 at the time).
People gasped, the hens blew a gasket and told me that I was a jerk for making such a comment.

My guess is that guy probably got a bunch of puss at the party, and you went home alone, sad, and jealous.
