With this virus, it’s almost as if the media is hoping it spreads so they have something to freak out over. Bunch of pussies, wash your damn hands and shut up. shite like this used to happen all the time in the Old Testament and the Middle Ages with little to no medicine and we’re all still here.

My theory is most people have such boring lives that they welcome any interruption to their boredom.

People always thrive on primal fear. It's in our DNA.

You'll be able to hear the collective disappointed groans around the world if this thing fizzles.

It's why the EU is losing its collective mind over the temporary travel ban. If they really cared, and if they were taking this so much more seriously than the incompetent US president, they would have done this way earlier, since that is what people are saying the US should have done.

There is no logic to this thing, except when you realize that much of this is all theater.

You really ran to a message board to raise this question? C'mon man, you aren't new here.

Yes I’m not new here, which is exactly why I asked this question because the OT never disappoints.

Existential (or perceived) threats are often a great unifying process that people end up almost enjoying. They also tend to miss the threat when it’s over. There’s a good book called Tribe that discusses this.

Some examples were the Londoners in the tunnels in world war 2 during the bombings and even cancer patients on a ward getting chemo together. It’s kind of an interesting phenomenon.

Maybe it’s not them.

Maybe it’s you & how you interpret the message

Ever think of that

People like common events. Makes them feel like a part of something. Gives them something to talk about.

Major sports

TV show finales

Disasters

etc.

That is really what the question is. And the answer is that forever chased "attention".

That's their entire business - draw eyes and sell ads to those eyes.

You can't sell ads when things are nice and quiet. See how they cover a natural disaster or plane crash - they can barely contain their gleefulness. This is no difference.

Sound reasoning.
