I concur. Birmingham is definitely trending up! I'm sure there is plenty to like about Nashville and ATL but Birmingham as a great vibe. If I can get a little slice of land on the lake to build a cabin and ride motorcycles I'll be in heaven.

Are you connected with the store in Homewood which shares your name? I bought my used 410 from there. Brought me a lot of joy!

It’s not about comparing the two directly. I’m saying that I’m not sitting around twiddling my thumbs in BHam and need NYC for daily entertainment.

I’m also saying that having access to the amenities of NYC or SF isn’t worth it if I’m living in a dump while commuting hours every day all while not putting away tons of money.

You’re thinking of Fretted Instruments, and I know Herb well.

Bang wannabe supermodels from Russia.
Eat any kind of food you want, at whatever level of finery you want.
Fly to Europe for a weekend without it being a big deal.
Have access to top universities.
Laugh at dumbass baws who don't know there is a world outside their fishing camp.

Yeah I know lots of people from BR that take quick weekend trips to Europe.

It’s not only the cost you have to factor. From NY, you can take a direct flight and be in London in under 5 hours.

I’m going to Iceland in January for 4 days because I was able to get a RT flight for $225 and the total flight time (direct) is about 4 1/2 hours. For comparison, it takes 3 1/2 direct to get back to LA.

Yes! It's crazy to me that people go to places like California to go live in the city. The most beautiful part of California is the countryside not the cities. California has the most beautiful countryside I've ever seen, if I would have moved there it would be to live in the Hills. What you find in the cities you can find in any City anywhere. The cities are all the same for the most part, no matter which state you're in but I can't go to South Louisiana and go mountain climbing likewise, I can't go to Montana and go crawfishing in the swamp

I moved to NYC and it was strictly work related. I had no desire to live here but fell in love with it after a few months.

I’d say people do it for career acceleration. Everything moves so fast here(and similar in other large cities I imagine) that if you’re a high performer you can get much further ahead in title/pay than elsewhere.

I've lived in Austin, Houston, and Dallas at some point. Never had more than a 5 minute commute.

People are different. I’d rather live in a smaller house and have access to world class entertainment. I’m never home anyway

The couple thousand "wannabe supermodels" must be very busy servicing the several hundred thousand guys in the proper age range.

The question I don't get is why people live way out from the city and commute a long way so they can get a bigger house when they probably don't use the last room or two in their house that much anyway.

City life isn't that AMAZING. It is just the same trendy keeping up with the Joneses shite people have done forever.

Yeah, you’re better off staying in BR. No chance of being the victim of a crime there.

Probably due to the low demand of Iceland in January.
