Why do people feel the need to start talking jive.....

...when they are around someone talking jive? Been with several co-workers or friends who are normally very professional, but when we run into someone at a restaurant or bar and they immediately switch to talking jive/urban just because of the bartender, waiter, or fellow patron does. It sounds and makes them look stupid.
I always make it a point to sound even more educated so they use it as an example of how stupid they sound. I’ve never understood this concept.
Be an example, not an enabler!

You white boys took our land from us and made us take your customs and religion and now you want us to forget our language too?

In all seriousness, our waitress did this last weekend.
There was a black family seated at the table next to us, and its like she became a different person when talking to them. I think they called her out on it, so she showed them a picture of her black boyfriend. It was cringeworthy.

It boggles me wee brain when people don't GRASP the concept that it's perfectly normal and human nature to conform to an environment. One of these methods is interpersonal communication.
For example, the way you may speak to a dog or child is your natural way to feel closer and relevant to the pet or child.
You may speak more articulately to someone you know doesn't speak very good English.
You tend to speak louder to someone wearing a hearing aid even if they hear perfectly fine with the aid.
Thus, if someone is immersed in a community speaking with a Southern or British accent he or she will adopt nuances and accent itsefl.
Shocker, this goes for Urban Dialect aka Jive.
Idiots who make fun of this natural communication instinct just look more stupider than the person doing it.
OP is stupid by default so. There's that.

I admit it's funny when you hear a white person who speaks like that.
Like Finga In My Booty Guy from the Bama Game. He's a white dude believe it or not.
White folks living in the hood with black folks are a great example of what I was posting. We make fun of it. But if you ever had a friend move to another country and catch up with them years later, they'll speak with an accent.

Humans who aren’t sociopaths tend to reflect the posture/speech patterns/tone of those around them. In this example, it’s called code switching. Now, some people go too far and move into pandering, but that’s a separate issue.

It’s more likely that they are putting on a show at work, and how they talk in a bar or social setting is their normal speech pattern.

In the early 70’s Nolty Theriot from Golden Meadow had a bunch of boats working in the North Sea. Some of the captains who left the States could barely speak English as they spoke Cajun French. When they came back they and their families had British accents. It was funny to hear a Golden Meadow coonass speak with a British accent.
