As a white guy who grew up in Orleans Parish, lives in a black town now and has been around black people my entire life, I can tell you that most black people will respect you more if you just talk in your normal inflections, accent and vocabulary.

They're not fricking stupid. They can tell youre pandering to them and faking it. They appreciate when people are real and genuine. Just be yourself.

OP's definitely full of shite.

With that being said, I'm still surprised by the number of people who still don't know that code switching is a thing and/or act surprised when it happens.

I agree and I swear I do both lol.
I loss some of my Mississippi accent moving to the east coast but when I get back around family I get back to it.

I also say some hood type stuff when not at work, usually to make people laugh.

...when they are around someone talking jive? Been with several co-workers or friends who are normally very professional, but when we run into someone at a restaurant or bar and they immediately switch to talking jive/urban just because of the bartender, waiter, or fellow patron does. It sounds and makes them look stupid.

I always make it a point to sound even more educated so they use it as an example of how stupid they sound. I’ve never understood this concept.

Be an example, not an enabler!

Do you ever change the way you speak around your boss, or your boss's boss? How bout when hanging out with your friends vs your grandparents? How is that any different? People adapt to their surroundings.

When I'm at work I sound like Prince Harry.

When I'm with my buddies I sound like John Gotti.

When I cook I sound like Justin Wilson.

You don't really know anything about me so your statement is hollow.

While my statement may be anecdotal, it holds almost universally true, in my experience.

You ever considered the fact that they’re talking different around you and revert to natural around people who they relate more to?
