Why do old people get tax breaks

Which tax break might that be? We pay local, state, federal, income, property, social security, school taxes and whatever other ones I failed to identify.

A Special Assessment applies to the homestead of persons who are 65 years of age and older if the adjusted gross household income is below a certain level.
