Most people are crappy. The ones who aren't are an exception. Their descendants revert to the crappy mean.

This is a general rule, but there are instances where the actions of a child doesn't reflect how they were raised.. And that can go both ways. Someone turning out good despite the way they were raised.
Also, it also depends on how many kids people have as well. If parents have 4 kids and three of them turned out to be respectable folk.. And one turned into a complete frick-up, was it something the parents did?
But for the most part, yeah.. Good people doesn't really mean good parents.

Neither my kids or their kids followed the parents lead.
I'll admit to not being quiet the man my dad was.
This has been going downhill since before WWII when people got better paying easier jobs in the city.
The old farm life kept everybody too busy to become shitheads.
Lots of truth in this.

Grandfather paves the way.
Son fourishes and follows footsteps.
Grandson spoiled, feels entitled, usually ends up being a frickup.
That is happening on a country wide scale in the USA at the moment.

Probably too busy flourishing to be a good parent or something.

It could be a perception issue. My 1st wife's dad was hailed as the greatest parent/grandparent in the world. Truth is, he was way too indulgent. He let his kids and some grandkids walk all over him. It shows in how those closest to him have turned out. They are miserable and think the world owes them something. Those who were not as close are living productive, happy lives.
Glad I left that vortex before getting totally sucked in.

The problem here is...you are leaving out the middle man. Tell me about the parents, and I'll tell you why their kids are little shits.

I'd tell you to ask my grandparents but they're dead.

Corporal punishment was the first introduction children had to the concept that their actions have consequences. Our more and more enlightened generations have been doing away with corporal punishment since the Dr. Spock 60s.
Anything goes.
Anything goes.

quote:Same here. My next door neighbor is elderly and in poor health. Her daughter, who also has health issues, takes care of her. Neighbor's grandson (20-25 years old) lives there as well and does jack shite. So I started mowing their front yard several months ago. A few weeks ago the grandson had the nerve to tell me to start edging their driveway as well. I told him if he'd get off his arse and clean out his grandmother's gutters, I'd edge the driveway. He told me to frick off
No clue. Three of us tend to the lawn of the elderly widow across the street. Son and two grandchildren (who live with her) would be pressed to say thanks.

All kids (teenagers) are little shits. That old man was a shite in his youth. Be thankful he grew out of it.
