Helping an elederly man out today at his property which he is proud of. Grandkids who have use of the place left trash in the firepit, empty shotgun hulls floating in the pond, broke a chair.

Seems like finding kids who aren't little shits is the rarity.

No clue. Three of us tend to the lawn of the elderly widow across the street. Son and two grandchildren (who live with her) would be pressed to say thanks.

Is it an epidemic? Or did you just want to tell us about this guy's shitty grandkids and felt you had to make it seem like it's a wide spread deal to make it thread worthy?

Just because you are a good person does not mean you are a good parent.

If you are too nice, and don't take control- your kids will run all over you and turn out as crappy adults.

Those crappy adults almost always have crappy kids.

Wash rinse repeat.

Do what you were raised to do and forget about the slackers. They'll own the world soon, but we'll be gone.
"get off my lawn" works for me.

In general, I think good people do "good" for their grandkids or even kids, all the time and they do not appreciate it because they will think "oh we can just do _________________. My grandparents don't care".

I don't know how many times I've heard about grandparents raising grandkids and being hailed as heroes only to have an alternate though: that the people who failed the first time are being expected to turn into the perfect parents this time - despite their previous failure.

People can be good people and bad parents at the same time. Judge a person's parenting skills by the outcome. If their kids suck, then they sucked as parents. If their kids were crappy parents, don't automatically absolve them of any blame.

OR I wanted my kids to have it better than me so I "spoiled" them.

My kids want their kids to have it better than them so they "spoiled" them.

Neither my kids or their kids followed the parents lead.

I'll admit to not being quiet the man my dad was.

This has been going downhill since before WWII when people got better paying easier jobs in the city.

The old farm life kept everybody too busy to become shitheads.
