It's a dog, dogs are individuals and vary. My dog is a pitbull, sweetest dog who ever lived. I don't leave her alone with my son, but that's because I'm not a moron. I wouldn't leave him alone with any dog. What's really dumb is people who think their 100lb lab is not dangerous. Dogs are animals and can frick you up. Pitbulls do get a bad rap and it seems that if someone is trashy the will gravitate to that breed because they think it says something about them or their image. The sad part is it becomes a self fulfilling stereotype kind of thing. Trashy people are more likely to be abusive, not train or socialize their dog, or get them neutered. Exactly the wrong type of person to have any kind of dog, especially one so powerful

Not everyone who owns a pit is a piece of shite, but they are definitely the choice breed of the lowest of lowlifes.

Sure, but that isn't unique to pit bulls. You think she could have controlled a black lab? or a husky? Or a great dane? hell, she probably would have had a hard time with a collie.

Perhaps, but I don't see the insane muscaluture on other breeds of dogs like is present in pit bulls. And you'd be hard pressed to pretend that a pit bull is as harmless as a collie.

MD, so I've taken a lot of tests over the years..and rescue pit bull owner..as an earlier poster said they aren't for everybody and you have to be reasonably strong to train/control them while also being very responsible knowing your dog can kill any other dog if they scrap or child if they accidentally trigger the dog. My dog has play dates, is neutered and is a great companion, lap dog (no shedding) and watch dog, but I'm always vigilant on his surrounding and situation.

Labs aren't supposed to be 100 lbs. Trashy people breed giant labs.

Agreed. All living things have a breaking point, where they lose their shite and snap. Most dog breeds could be deterred with a swift kick to the ribs or hit with a stick. A pit bull, on the other hand, will not be stopped so easily. They are incredibly determined and super strong. When they snap, more damage is going to occur

Yeah, pit bulls are strong that that is why when they lose it, its bad. But its mostly an owner problem.

I have never seen a collie go off and attack someone, but I know black labs that had to be put down due to biting someone, same is true for a cattle dog. Hell my mother was attacked by a schnauzer.

Pit bulls can be great pets, but as I said before they are not for everyone. But this pretty much true for every dog breed.

I heard this. I also heard the newest mailmen get the ghetto neighborhoods and their mail truck chased on the first of the month.

The thing I didn't know is that some houses get multiple welfare checks. He said they were from different agencies under what we generally call federal welfare.

Your statement supports the argument that pit bull owners are uneducated.

OK, it's time for Zach to lay down some objective statistics on breeds and severe attacks on humans:

At the top:

Pit Bulls

Then there is a loooong line till we get to the next group in no particular order:

Akita
German Shepherd
Rottweiler
Chow

After that the mortality rates are virtually zero. If you get killed by a black lab you've got a news story.

But they are not robots. They have free will, and sometimes they just decide to frick shite up.

I don't care how good an owner you think you are, if you ever let your dogs interact with other dogs or people, that is irresponsible. I know that socializing does a lot to help temperament, but it is incredibly risky. Pitbulls were bred specifically to fight, to be tenacious, to be strong, and you think you can train 100% of the nature of the animal out of it? That's foolish. Even the most mild-mannered dog (or person) can snap at any time. It could be something in the environment that sets it off, or it could be totally internal, a mental thing. You just can't know until it happens.

what makes this so awesome is there is no stats or lin behind this.

I do agree that pit bulls kill the most people.

Most (not saying all) pit bull owners think they are badass and want a dog that they feel reflects that.

pittbull is a very imprecise term, it's like saying sheppard or retriever. The are at least 20 breeds of dogs that would be called a pittbull if they were in a police report, many of them are dogs that have no history of being bred for fighting. Pretty much any muscular short hair dog is called pitbull in these kinds of reports. There are no real numbers on any of this, just sensationalized media reporting.

In 2014 my wife and son who was 14 at the time went to the pound and came home with a rescue Pit. I just about blew a gasket since we also had a 4 year old daughter at the time as well who is drawn to dogs. We are far from dirtbags.

That dog damn near got us to divorce court because my wife had no clue what we were getting into by owning that dog. I though it was horribly irresponsible on her part but we have kept the dog and he's actually been a decent pet and great guard dog (not sure if my electric meter has been read in years). However, he to this day, is put away in a kennel if my daughter goes outside or has friends over.

My golden retriever has been attacked twice in her life. Both times for no reason by pit mixes. My dog is very gentle and would not harm a dirty sock. Why was she attacked, your guess is as good as mine. But frick those dogs.

please elaborate...were they running loose? was your GT? did this happen in your yard, theirs, or a park, etc...? were leashes involved?
lots of unknowns in this statement.

A lot of them can't carry because of a felony record, so the dog is their weapon.
