I know a couple who have a 1 year old, and live in a 2 bedroom house. They were actively trying to get pregnant and succeeded.
Used to be common to see two boys or girls share a room. A 5 yr old doesn't need his own bedroom, closet, and attached bath.

Your only response is don’t judge someone. It just doesn’t make sense to me for anyone to justify bringing a child into the world with no plan, no job, no benefits, no maternity leave, no savings, just saying frick it we are married we will figure it out.

Who would ever have kids if they waited until they could afford them?
If you wait to be able to afford kids, you’ll never have them.
That doesn’t mean that unemployed couples should be knocking up, but you find a way to spread the goods around when you have to share with children.

Because the value of our lives are not measured in our bank account statement when we die. If a couple is hardworking, no matter their income, they can make it work.
Now if someone is accumulating debt and taking expensive vacations while adding children, that is poor judgement. But that doesn't mean you don't have children... it means you cut expenses.
The biggest additional cost is food and clothes (and diapers early on). You have the house and other general living expenses with or without kids. After the tax break, the real cost is minimal. The biggest cost is the wife (or husband) not working. People make kids much more expensive than they have to be.

This doesn't seem like their case.
He has a job, she has a small income. Maternity leave isn't necessary.

there is plenty of truth to this but it's also clear to see how people would use this as an excuse for irresponsibility, yeah?

Having a child and relying on one income from a job where layoffs are extremely common doesn’t seem to be too smart of a decision, but to each their own.

The fear of losing your job isn't a good reason to put your life on hold.
You lose your job? Go find another one. It happens.

Why do couples willingly have children they can’t afford?
I know this doesn't apply in all cases, but the ones who adhere strictly to religious dogma about not using artificial birth control are the people who I find ridiculous and irresponsible. They may not be able to afford them, but they're like, "Oh, but the Bible says to go forth and multiply." Totally stupid.

I agree. That’s certainly what I teach my own kids.

We are a one income family and that one income is pretty average. We have 4 kids. By some folks definition on here we probably can’t affird that many kids but we make it work. Kids are hard but awesome. It’s about priorities.

We waited nine years to have our second because we were scared to death of having to financially support four human beings at once.

2 years ago i saw a dude put up a gofundme for in vitro. Looking for like 30k if you can't afford that, kids ain't any fricking cheaper.
News flash, that dude has probably spent $40-$50K on other fertility treatments the 2 years prior as well. I know this from experience. I never have asked for a dime, but theres a ton of costs leading to choosing to go the IVF route. Nothing about fertility is cheap.
