Why do couples willingly have children they can’t afford?

By willingly, I mean that they were actively trying to have a child and it wasn’t an accident.
This couple I know has been married a little over a year. The wife doesn’t have a real job but does hair and makeup. The husband works at a plant. Now that they’ve had the baby the wife is complaining to my SO about being worried about money.
Is it just the instant gratification society that we are in that causes people to put themselves in situations like this? Is it the natural progression after marriage and people feel like they have to get to it(this couple is in their mid twenties)?
I understand accidents happen, but in this situation it pisses me off that you chose this path yet now you’re bitching about not having any money.

A ton of people care more about talking about being a mother on facebook than they do about actually being a mother and actually raising a child in a manner to help fulfill that child's potential

As long as they aren't on the government dime, why do you care.
People a lot poorer have been having a lot of children for a long time (and before government assistance)
Kids are awesome and just because something is hard doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.

Kids are like currency to some people. I know a couple that has $100k in credit card debt and three kids and wants more.
Kids make some people feel loved or that they have power. I don't know the exact psychology. But, some people want kids and have no business having them.

By all means do it, but why do it at a point in life where you aren’t financially stable if you don’t have to?

I know a chick who does this shite. Even has a fricking blog about it. She lives in BR. She gives guidance to all the other "mamas" out there via blog and podcast

I don't think there is a whole lot of planning involved with these pregnancies. You aren't exactly dealing with big brains in these situations.

Worrying about money doesn't necessarily mean they can't afford the baby, but that she is likely trying to wrap her mind around the unnecessary spending they will have to cut and direct torards the baby.
And her not working will likely saw them more money than she could make at some shitty part time job

People are dumb and don't think things through. It's kinda like buying a house or car they can't afford.

The group think on this board is scary sometimes.
The leaps to judgement are incredible.

I think the MLM girls are coached to talk like that, honestly.
Not that there weren't women on social media constantly begging for attention for being mothers before, but for some reason the "mama" talk has gotten insane lately.
"Congrats to a member of my team Stefanie for doing $1,600.00 in sales on Black Friday! This hardworkin' mama is providing for her babies by being a #bossbabe and making her dream a reality!"
TBH these women probably aren't the ones who truly can't afford kids, but they just play into the culture of defining yourself by being part of the "mom" community on social media. They're all just selfie-obsessed duck face girls grown up, really.

Kind of seems like what most parents worry about. If it's new then you dont really know "how much" it'll be either. New and scary. Instead of judging them, give them some advice and help guide them instead. Learn where to cut, what to make sure you buy vs what really isnt needed, etc. Unless your wife has trash friends in general, then help out. Heck maybe pay for her to cut yalls hair
If they are having to depend on the govt then thats different. But if they are just nervous thats natural. One of those reality checks that dont come up when doing the deed. Not real sexy talk. Unless you are Loenard, laying in bed with Penny.

Low income and low IQ correlate pretty strongly.
I once new a guy who worked a minimum wage job as an aide to special needs kids. He supplemented that by selling shite on let go. He once told me how him and his girlfriend of a few months were TRYING for a kid. The had one...they broke up. Now him and his new gf are on kid #2
