I find it very hard to believe that this baby will financially ruin them. If this baw has any type of work ethic and has been at this plant for more than a year or two, he's making over $60k. Couple that with the wife hopefully doing a few 'appointments' (at least $100 cash a pop) a week, they should be fine. If they're not, they're already financially irresponsible and the baby doesn't have any effect

65% of babies born in Louisiana are on Medicaid which is a rather alarming number.

Yes, that is unfortunate but it doesn't relate really to my comments to op.... Unless they are on gov assistance.

If you wait until you're ready to have kids, you'll never be ready. It is a massive change in every way. I have two and I haven't stopped worrying about money since I had the first and I'm not close to qualifying for gov't cheese.

Not sure why this thread has you miffed

I doubt anyone here really thinks people with modest incomes shouldn't have kids, so long as they have the right intentions and plan correctly

But obviously that's not always the case (perhaps especially in our region) and discussion of such cultural phenomena makes for good message board fodder.

Jesus wants you to have 12 children.

Agree to disagree. I suppose I was just raised differently. My parents were both college educated and had great careers with stability before they decided to pull the trigger on kids, and that’s how I was raised.

It baffles me. I know a couple who have a 1 year old, and live in a 2 bedroom house. They were actively trying to get pregnant and succeeded. If you can only afford a 2 bedroom house, why are you having 2 kids?

Because most couples don't create an Excel spreadsheet and budget the incremental costs of a child.

That doesn't mean that is the only way to do it...

Hell, there are certain people who consider your mother a horrible parent for having a career and not raising her own children.

Do you have children? If so, give them the advice they are seeking rather than jumping to judgement of your friends.

For a lot of people, their only purpose in life is to create new life.

When I worked at Lauberge I would get bored at night and go out to the valet area to chat with the clean up guys while they got the trash up. One guy told me he was trying for baby #10 because if you have 10 kids that exempts you from child support

Do you need more than 2 bedrooms for 3 people?

Sounds like they have an appropriately sized house they can afford. The wasteful spender buys a larger house than they need just to keep up with the Joneses.

Not at all, but I love how that type of response is always thrown out when someone runs out of intelligent rebuttals...
