Along the same lines as Uncle Tom is Uncle Remus true story of a kindly ole slave who told stories to the children. Disney made a movie and uncle Remus was sorta the hero and had lots more wisdom than the white folks displayed. THEY had the movie banned. it actuality made the elderly slave seem content and happy. Or maybe the culcha dont like Uncles? who knows?

This is a pretty good article. I've often wondered the same thing, because I remember Uncle Tom being a badass in the book, dude would die before giving up his fellow man.

Apparently the minstrel shows changed the story a good bit and made uncle tom more of a dancing subservient

Because, for the most part, they’re disingenuous.

Nah a huge population of black youth would rather worship: gang bangers, gangster rappers and drug dealers thus leaving their path as an adult in Question. Dont get me wrong there are Role moles like shack oneal , MJ but most are sports/music/tv stars. You bring up obama, and any black political figures then they will point to uncle tom and look down and make fun of these kids trying to have success in the white mans world. Really tough on the inner city kids especially.

It's because he was depicted as a dancing fool that helped white people instead of an abolitionist that risked his life to save other blacks.

And people don't read.

How so?

Do you feel that they're putting on an act but secretly think the way you do?

How do you know the way I think? Right back at you

To answer your question, I think they’re disingenuous because they are simply seeking attention. Without perceiving that they’re being cheered on by the entire black race, I don’t believe that they would have much of an opinion at all. These are my personal thoughts.

People who are driven by hatred cannot see the forest for the trees because they have been blinded by their hate. I mean that. They have allowed that hatred to cloud their brains to the point where they simply cannot see the truth no matter how many facts and evidence you present them, and until they begin forgiveness in their life, so shall it ever be with them.

In order to have an uncle, you have to have a dad. It’s very triggering.

Except he wasn’t... Uncle Tom was a hero who gave his life to protect other slaves.

The real life Uncle Tom (Josiah Henderson) was an abolitionist and minister who founded a school to educate fugitive slaves.

Honest Answer

The issue is the characterization of Uncle Tom has been misinterpreted.

I've read the novel. Uncle Tom throughout the early parts of the book was in essence the perfect slave. You had to be industrious as a slave or else you were dead. He acknowledged his place in society ( a slave) and accustomed himself to that role. During the antebellum period that was what all slaves were expected to do. I think this early character arc is where "Uncle Tom" got it's negative origin.

But later on towards the conclusion, Uncle Tom showed that he did in fact love his fellow slaves so much that he would die for them. So his real loyalties we're not towards his master, he just did that because that's how you survive as a Slave. Being obedient. Being Subservient.

It's basically the Scrooge Question all over again. In The Christmas Carol, Scrooge is a greedy man caring only about money. By the end he has reformed. But the term Scrooge is still used to describe a greedy person.

People use character traits from early story arcs instead of the concluded ones. I can give more examples of this trope.
