Some people need the belt
Some people didn’t need the belt

Andre didn’t need the belt to be over as an A+ main eventer and draw big money. Why have 1 big match when you could have a title match and Andre’s match?
Piper was of a similar mold.

He wasn't as marketable as Hulk. simple as that. He was big but not great looking on tv, in ads, magazines, etc.

Andre was a worldwide draw for decades. He alone would fill arenas all over the planet. There would be ten or twenty shitty wrestlers on the card, but at the end people would get to see The Giant; and they'd come just because The Giant was there.
He was already a huge draw when the McMahons started taking wrestling onto television, but he'd already been wrestling for 20 years by that time and his body had begun to fail him. Had he been 10 or 15 years younger, he absolutely would have been one of their biggest TV draws for a long time.

Wrestling was also much more face focused back then. Nowadays the faces are mostly portrayed and weak while the heels are the biggest stars.

Two reasons
1. He didn't need the belt to be a superstar
2. Andre was considered more of an attraction. His luster would wear off if he stayed anywhere too long.

not a pro wrestling fan, but the only way Hogan was going to beat Andre would be if it was scripted. I mean, look at the size of him. Hogan looks like his kid brother.
Watch the HBO doc on Andre. Hulk wrote the entire Wrestlemania match script on notebook paper. He was worried about injuring Andre who was severely limited going into the match. Hulk handed it to a very drunk Andre and wondered if The Giant would even read it. Turns out andre performed every action written to the page in what has become the most important match in WWE history.

Andre DID become champ. He beat Hogan and briefly held it. Turns out, though, the fight was rigged and the belt was vacated. The real referee was detained backstage and his evil twin gave Andre a three-count while Hogan's shoulders were off the mat.
In the "official" world title history, Andre's 1-day reign is counted because he defeated Hogan. However, The Million Dollar Man's (who Andre surrendered the title to for payment) brief reign is not recognized as official.
However, due to the pre-internet delays in information and because it would be a week before they could "announce" that Jack Tunney had held-up the belt, the Million Dollar Man wrestled at house shows during the delay as the WWF Champion and carried the belt -- despite not officially being recognized as champion by the now WWE.

Because Superman and Batman were better.

The Andre doc on HBO was incredible. It was pretty sad too.

Not even a Wrestling fan and found that Doc so well done and entertaining and emotional.

The outcomes are all rigged. Saying it’s not fake because someone got hurt is like saying an ac to on movie is real because a stunt guy got hurt

The way he was booked dictated that if he was champ no one else could be and he didn't need the belt to be a huge star where others did.
exactly this

Listen to the Joe Rogan podcast with Jake the snake, coupled with this. Really feel sorry for Andre'.

Still the best angle involving a ref in wrasslin history in my book.
The fact is Andre never needed a belt he was a huge attraction that drew huge money all over the world even at the end of his career when he could barely move. In those days him being bigger than everyone else was more than enough to draw money.

Below is a screenshot from one of the houseshows. It was obviously televised in a local market. I wonder if the entire video exists on youtube somewhere.
